The symptom alone does not show that Jio Fiber is at fault. Also, Owncast’s incoming RTMP stream is not necessarily going to YouTube; the title’s “YouTube” wording does not establish the destination.
First, identify where the stream is failing
OBS reports different signals for connection trouble and local encoding trouble. Note the time of each dropout and what OBS Stats shows during it. A single speed-test result cannot establish the cause: the relevant question is whether the route can sustain the configured stream bitrate while you broadcast.

| What you observe | What to investigate next |
|---|---|
| OBS reports dropped frames or the stream disconnects | The connection to the ingest server may be unstable, or the set bitrate may exceed what the connection can sustain. Test Ethernet and reduce bitrate. |
| OBS reports rendering lag | Investigate the streaming computer’s CPU/GPU capacity and encoding workload. |
Owncast logs or transcoder.log show errors, or server resources are saturated |
Investigate Owncast processing, hardware capacity and FFmpeg. |
| The broadcast stays connected, but only some viewers have trouble | Check Owncast stream-performance observations and affected viewers’ network conditions; the broadcaster’s Jio connection may not be the cause. |
| MyJio diagnostics flag router, Wi-Fi, cabling or speed issues | Follow Jio’s on-screen troubleshooting and contact Jio if a service-side problem persists. |
These signals help narrow the fault; none, by itself, confirms the root cause for a particular broadcast.
Test OBS and the local network path
Check OBS Stats during a short test
- Start a brief broadcast and open OBS Stats. Watch for dropped frames and rendering lag as well as the moment the connection fails.
- If dropped frames appear, treat the network route or an unsustainable bitrate as likely areas to test. If rendering lag appears, examine the streaming computer’s load and encoding capacity.
Switch from Wi-Fi to Ethernet
Connect the streaming computer directly to the router with an Ethernet cable and repeat the same test. OBS recommends wired connectivity because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. If the wired test improves, Wi-Fi or another part of the local wireless path may be contributing. If it does not, continue checking bitrate, router and ISP path, and the Owncast host. Ethernet is a diagnostic step, not proof that the router or ISP is responsible.

- Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Wi-Fi - Next-gen Wi-Fi 6 AX3000 whole home mesh system to eliminate weak Wi-Fi for good(2Ă—2/HE160 2402 Mbps plus 2Ă—2 574 Mbps)
- Whole Home WiFi Coverage - Covers up to 6500 square feet with seamless high-performance Wi-Fi 6 and eliminate dead zones and buffering. Better than traditional WiFi booster and Range Extenders
- Connect More Devices - Deco X55(3-pack) is strong enough to connect up to 150 devices with strong and reliable Wi-Fi
- Our Cybersecurity Commitment - TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement
- More Gigabit Ports - Each Deco X55 has 3 Gigabit Ethernet ports(6 in total for a 2-pack) and supports Wired Ethernet Backhaul for better speeds. Any of them can work as a Wi-Fi Router
Reduce bitrate, then adjust picture settings if needed
OBS’s troubleshooting guide suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting point for bitrate, not as a guarantee of stable streaming. Reduce the OBS bitrate and judge the result during an actual broadcast. If dropouts continue, lower resolution or frame rate as well. A connection’s usable upload capacity can vary, so a favorable speed test does not replace a sustained stream test.
Verify Owncast’s RTMP destination and encoder settings
Owncast accepts incoming RTMP on TCP port 1935 by default, with the stream key on the /live/ path. Confirm the server address, port, path and key in OBS before changing router hardware. A wrong endpoint or key can prevent a valid connection, though it does not by itself explain every mid-stream dropout.

- More Gigabit Ports - Each Deco X55 has 3 Gigabit Ethernet ports(6 in total for a 2-pack) and supports Wired Ethernet Backhaul for better speeds. Any of them can work as a Wi-Fi Router
- Destination: use the correct Owncast server address, default RTMP port 1935 unless the server is configured otherwise, and the
/live/path for the key. - Video and audio: use H.264 video and AAC audio, the compatibility combination in Owncast’s documentation.
- Keyframes: set a two-second keyframe interval.
- Quality: make sure the server can handle the broadcast resolution and bitrate. Owncast’s examples include 720p at 30 fps and 3000 kbps, and 1080p at 30 fps and 4500 kbps. These are examples, not universal requirements; the suitable settings depend on the server’s configured output capacity and the connection.
Run JioFiber’s router and line diagnostics
Use MyJio to check the Jio service and local setup: Home > JioCare > Run Diagnostics. Jio says the diagnostic checks network health, router status, Wi-Fi strength, device connectivity, speed drops, loose cables and configuration issues. Follow any recommended on-screen steps. If diagnostics identify a service-side fault that persists, contact Jio; if they do not, continue with the OBS and Owncast evidence rather than assuming the line is clear in every respect.
Check Owncast processing and server logs
If the local connection and encoder settings look sound, inspect the receiving server. Owncast’s troubleshooting guidance points to the broadcaster’s CPU/GPU, local network, Owncast server load and FFmpeg as areas to investigate.

- Open Owncast’s
/admin/logsand inspect entries around the dropout time. - Review
transcoder.logfor errors or repeated processing problems. - Check CPU, GPU and other server resource use while the broadcast is running. Saturated resources can indicate that the host cannot process the incoming stream reliably.
- Confirm the server is using an appropriate current FFmpeg installation, then retest after addressing any identified issue.
If the broadcast remains connected but viewer reports are isolated, compare those reports with Owncast’s stream-performance observations and the affected viewers’ network conditions before changing the broadcaster’s Jio setup.
