Speaking with VIP Magazine on the IFTA red carpet, Balfe described an emotional first table read and said filming still had months to go. Asked about the conclusion, the actor and executive producer said: “I don’t even know what’s happening in the end, they’re keeping it very top secret.”

She added that “you can never please everybody,” and said the cast hoped the writers would make the version they believed was best. Her remark described secrecy around an ending she had not been told; it was not a hint that she knew a specific outcome.

Season 8 was the show’s final season. A March 5, 2026, USA TODAY report, syndicated by Yahoo, said it premiered on Starz in the United States on Friday, March 6 at 12 a.m. ET / 9 p.m. PT the previous evening, with weekly Friday releases through Starz streaming and on-demand platforms. That was the reported US schedule; availability and access can vary by territory and service.

In its May 15, 2026, recap, ELLE reported that Balfe and Heughan did not know exactly how the ending would play out because the production filmed different versions of the last moment. The finale is titled “And the World Was All Around Us.”

What is Outlander: Blood of My Blood?
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is a franchise prequel about the parents of Claire and Jamie, rather than a continuation that explains Season 8’s finale. Vanity Fair reported in May 2025 that Gabaldon was involved as a writer and that the prequel uses original stories rather than adapting a novel series.
