Outer Range Season 3 has not been ordered. Josh Brolin said in 2024 that continuing the story could be intriguing and amazing, but Prime Video canceled the series after two seasons on July 3, 2024. There is currently no official renewal, revival, release date, or alternate-platform pickup.
Outer Range Season 3 is not happening at Prime Video—at least not under the show’s current status. Josh Brolin expressed enthusiasm for continuing the story in a 2024 interview, saying that a third season could be intriguing and amazing. However, Prime Video later canceled the science-fiction western after two seasons. The cancellation was reported on July 3, 2024, and there is no official Season 3 renewal, production announcement, cast update, trailer, or release date.
What Josh Brolin said about Season 3
Brolin discussed the possibility of another season while promoting Season 2, which had just become available. He indicated that the show’s continuing concept and the experience of making it were becoming increasingly intriguing, and described a third season as something that could be amazing.
Those remarks showed that Brolin was creatively interested in returning as Royal Abbott. They did not confirm that Prime Video had ordered Season 3. At the time of the interview, the streamer had not announced either a renewal or a cancellation.

Brolin’s position carried particular weight because he was not only the series’ lead performer but also one of the executive producers associated with Season 2. He played Royal, the Wyoming rancher at the center of the story, whose family becomes entangled with the mysterious void and its connection to time.
Prime Video canceled Outer Range after two seasons
The decisive update came after Brolin’s interview. On July 3, 2024, TVLine reported that Prime Video had officially canceled Outer Range after two seasons, citing confirmation from Deadline.
That decision changes how Brolin’s comments should be interpreted. He was open to making another season, but he was not announcing one. The series was canceled before Prime Video publicly commissioned Season 3, so there is no legitimate release timetable to report.
There has also been no researched announcement of a reversal, a movie-length continuation, a revival by another streaming service, or a new platform pickup. A future revival is theoretically possible for any canceled series, but there is currently no official evidence that one is being developed.

Where to watch Outer Range now
The complete released run consists of two seasons on Prime Video. The platform’s title listing identifies Brolin as Royal Abbott and describes the series as a story about two families drawn into an escalating conflict involving control of time.
Season 2 contains seven episodes. Prime Video’s surfaced regional listing dates the finale, “The End of Innocence,” to May 15, 2024, while other coverage gives May 16 as the Season 2 premiere date. The one-day difference reflects regional release timing rather than a meaningful disagreement over when the season became available. Readers can watch Outer Range on Prime Video, subject to the service’s current availability and subscription terms in their country.
What Season 2 left unresolved
Spoiler warning for the first two seasons: Season 2 continued the central mystery surrounding the void and deepened the fractures within the Abbott family. One of its major story developments involved the revelation that Autumn is a time-traveling version of Amy, creating a direct connection between the show’s supernatural mythology and Royal’s family history.
Because the series ended with its second season, these elements are best described as unfinished story material—not as confirmed Season 3 plot points. There is no official outline showing how the writers would have resolved the void, Autumn and Amy’s relationship, Royal’s place in the conflict, or the struggle between the Abbott and Tillerson families.

Could another service revive the show?
Nothing in the available reporting indicates that another platform has acquired Outer Range. Nor is there evidence of a completed continuation film or an active Season 3 production. The most accurate answer is therefore that the show remains canceled, with two seasons available to stream.
If that status changes, a legitimate revival announcement would be expected to identify the new platform or producer and provide some combination of cast, production, or release information. Until then, Brolin’s positive comments should be understood as an expression of interest rather than a promise that viewers will see Royal Abbott again.
Outer Range Season 3 status: the short version
- Josh Brolin’s view: He said a third season would be intriguing and could be amazing.
- What that meant: Brolin was expressing enthusiasm, not confirming an order.
- Prime Video’s decision: The series was canceled after two seasons, as reported on July 3, 2024.
- Episodes available: Two seasons, with seven episodes in Season 2.
- Release date: None exists for Season 3.
- Revival news: No official alternate-platform pickup, movie continuation, trailer, or production announcement has been identified.
For now, the story ends with the two released seasons. Brolin may have wanted to continue exploring Outer Range, but Prime Video’s cancellation means there is no officially announced Season 3 to anticipate.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Josh Brolin expressed interest in a third season of Outer Range during the Season 2 publicity cycle, but Prime Video canceled the series on July 3, 2024, after two seasons. No Season 3, revival, movie continuation, or release date has been officially announced.
