Spoilers for Oshi no Ko Season 2, Episode 12, “Reunion.” The penultimate episode turns away from the Tokyo Blade stage and back toward Miyazaki, where Aqua and Ruby’s past gives the season’s work, ambition, and revenge a more intimate cost. Its return to personal history doesn’t erase the show-business plot; it reminds us why these characters’ lives matter beyond the roles they play.
What happens in “Reunion”?
“Reunion” is Season 2’s 12th episode and the series’ 23rd overall. It aired in Japan on September 25, 2024; the season finale was scheduled for October 6, making this the penultimate episode, not the finale. The official episode synopsis returns Aqua and Ruby to Miyazaki, a place linked to Goro and Sarina’s lives and to the twins’ birth. Aqua follows traces of Goro while Ruby keeps her feelings for him to herself.
At the same time, B-Komachi is in Miyazaki to film a music video. Prime Video’s Japanese listing sums up the parallel simply: “Aqua revisits familiar sights after many years, while B-Komachi shoots their music video.” The listing dates the episode to September 25, 2024. Release timing and territory can lead regional platforms to show a neighboring date.
Why does the episode feel different after the Tokyo Blade arc?
The Tokyo Blade episodes made performance itself the focus: actors interpreting roles, creative choices shaping an adaptation, and an ensemble negotiating the distance between a character and the person playing them. “Reunion” narrows that scale. Miyazaki is not only a location for a shoot; it holds memories from before Aqua and Ruby’s current lives in entertainment and before Aqua’s pursuit of revenge became the story’s engine.

That shift is the heart of critic Angelo Delos Trinos’s favorable framing of the episode: after an extended stage-play arc and the mechanics of revenge, the series returns to the human drama that gives those threads their weight. It is an interpretation, not a claim about a universal audience response. The change in emphasis is clear, though: instead of asking what a performance reveals about its cast, the episode asks what a familiar place brings back for the twins.
What does the return to Miyazaki mean for Aqua and Ruby?
Aqua follows Goro’s traces
Aqua’s journey is investigative and inward-looking. The official synopsis says he follows traces of Goro, connecting his present-day search to the life that preceded it. Miyazaki makes that history concrete: the setting is tied to Goro and Sarina, not simply to the twins’ current work. Aqua’s pursuit gains emotional force because it reaches into a past that remains unresolved, rather than operating only as a plot mechanism.

Ruby keeps her feelings private
Ruby’s connection to the trip is different. The synopsis foregrounds her concealed feelings for Goro, giving the same return a personal meaning that does not mirror Aqua’s search. The episode’s parallel is effective precisely because the twins are not simply solving the same mystery together: they carry distinct relationships to the people and memories bound up in Miyazaki.
How does the music-video shoot fit the personal story?
B-Komachi’s video shoot keeps the machinery of entertainment in view. The group is working, producing material, and moving through a professional setting even as Aqua and Ruby encounter reminders of lives that existed before their present roles. That overlap suits Oshi no Ko: show business is not a separate spectacle floating above the characters’ private lives. Work continues alongside grief, memory, and feelings that cannot be neatly resolved on schedule.

Against Tokyo Blade’s ensemble performance and adaptation craft, the shoot supplies a quieter contrast. The episode places visible production work beside private history, allowing the ordinary business of making a video to share space with the twins’ more intimate return. Its emotional focus does not reject the industry plot; it gives that plot human stakes.
Does “Reunion” make the season’s larger themes matter more?
Yes, as a matter of emphasis rather than a clean resolution. The show-business story concerns how people perform, build careers, and navigate an industry that turns private lives into public material. The revenge story is driven by what Aqua believes he must uncover. By returning to Miyazaki and the twins’ earlier lives, “Reunion” reconnects both to specific people, memories, and losses rather than leaving them as abstract systems or goals.

That is why the episode’s title works on more than one level: it points toward familiar places and a past that still shapes the twins, even when their current lives pull them in different directions. The episode does not settle every feeling or investigation; as a penultimate chapter, its achievement is to restore intimacy before the season closes.
