“Golden,” from KPop Demon Hunters, won the Academy Award for Music (Original Song) at the 98th Oscars on March 15, 2026. The Academy credits seven songwriters: EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick, Joong Gyu Kwak, Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam, Jeong Hoon Seo, and Teddy Park. The film also won Best Animated Feature.
Who wrote and performed “Golden”?
The Oscar belongs to the songwriters credited by the Academy: EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick, Joong Gyu Kwak, Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam, Jeong Hoon Seo, and Teddy Park. The voices heard as HUNTR/X are EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami. EJAE has both roles: she is a credited songwriter and the singing voice of Rumi.
The Academy’s 98th Oscars ceremony page lists “Golden” as the Music (Original Song) winner. Netflix described it as the first K-pop song to win an Oscar; that milestone claim is Netflix’s, while the Academy record establishes the award.
Why “Golden” fulfills a dream in the film
“Golden” functions as an aspirational “I want” song: it presents the characters’ ambition and the future they hope to claim. But the song’s emotional turn makes the dream more complicated. Its bridge shifts toward Rumi’s isolation and uncertainty before she regains resolve.

Netflix’s February 2, 2026, account of the soundtrack quotes executive music producer Ian Eisendrath describing it this way: “In a traditional film musical structure, this is the ‘I want’ song.” That structure gives the track a narrative role beyond its performance as a group anthem: it lets the film move from confidence to vulnerability and back toward determination.

Netflix reported on February 2, 2026, that the film’s entire soundtrack had passed 10 billion global streams and that four of its songs were simultaneously in the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10. Netflix also called the latter a first for a soundtrack. These are dated Netflix-reported figures, not a live streaming total or a new count made on Oscar night.
What the filmmakers and songwriters said
In Netflix’s March 2026 Oscar-night report, EJAE said: “I’m so proud. I realized that the song and this award [are] not about success, [they’re] about resilience.” Her remark connects the award to the same shift the song makes in the film: aspiration does not erase vulnerability; resolve comes through it.
