Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

For H.264 at 720p30, YouTube lists 3 Mbps as the minimum video bitrate and 8 Mbps as recommended. Treat this as a starting configuration, not a guarantee: test the complete stream with your real feed and monitor YouTube’s stream health.
Recommended FFmpeg output settings for a 24/7 news stream
Choose resolution and frame rate based on the source and the detail viewers need. A 720p30 output is a practical starting point when the source suits it; moving to 1080p30 raises the bitrate target and may require more encoding headroom. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP, for sending the stream.
| Setting | Starting value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Transport | RTMPS | YouTube recommends it to encrypt the connection to its servers. |
| Video codec | H.264 | A straightforward compatibility choice. YouTube also lists H.265 and AV1 among supported encoder codecs. |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1280Ă—720 at 30 fps | A reasonable starting output if it meets the editorial need and the source is suitable. |
| Video bitrate, H.264 720p30 | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended | YouTube’s guidance is resolution- and frame-rate-specific. Select a target based on motion, source quality, and measured system performance. |
| Video bitrate, H.264 1080p30 | 5 Mbps minimum; 14 Mbps recommended | Higher resolution needs a different bitrate target; do not assume it will be more reliable on the same VM or connection. |
| Rate control | CBR | Constant bitrate is the practical starting point for a stable live contribution. |
| Keyframe interval (GOP) | 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds | At 30 fps, a two-second interval is 60 frames. |
| Audio | AAC stereo, 44.1 kHz, 128 kbps | YouTube accepts AAC or MP3 over RTMP/RTMPS; its advanced recommendations list 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps for stereo. |
| Picture format | Square pixels, progressive scan, Rec. 709 for SDR | These are among YouTube’s advanced recommendations; it also lists two B-frames and one reference frame. |
See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance for its full recommendations. These numbers describe ingest settings, not a promise that a particular Oracle instance can encode a given input continuously.
Build and test the FFmpeg pipeline before relying on it
There is no single safe command for every 24/7 news setup: the input may be a live URL, a file playlist, or another feed, and each needs appropriate reconnect, looping, timestamp, and credential handling. Verify the FFmpeg build and available encoder on the OCI image you choose, then test the complete command using the real source.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Confirm the source and its rights. Determine whether the input is a live feed or files, whether it can reconnect or loop as needed, and what licensing, attribution, or feed terms apply. Encoder settings do not grant rights to footage.
- Set the output profile. Start with H.264, 1280×720 at 30 fps, CBR video, a 60-frame GOP, and AAC stereo if the programme uses stereo audio. Use YouTube’s resolution-specific bitrate guidance to choose a target; for 720p30 H.264 its recommended value is 8 Mbps.
- Use an RTMPS destination. In YouTube’s live setup, use the server address and stream key associated with the broadcast, and provide them to FFmpeg as the RTMPS destination. Keep the key private: never paste a real key into a published command, shared log, or public support request.
- Test with representative content. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the intended stream. Check the output, audio, ingest status, and stream health before treating the setup as production-ready.
- Run it as a managed service. Configure a process supervisor or service manager with restart-on-failure behavior. Add log rotation, disk and memory monitoring, and an alert for loss of input or ingest. These are operational practices, not guarantees from OCI or YouTube.
Because the input type determines how FFmpeg should reconnect, loop, or preserve timestamps, validate those behaviors against the actual feed rather than copying a command intended for a different source.
Oracle Cloud sizing: what Always Free does and does not establish
Oracle’s current Always Free A1 description gives an entitlement equivalent to 2 OCPUs and 12 GB of memory for Always Free tenancies, described as 1,500 OCPU-hours and 9,000 GB-hours per month. Check the tenancy’s own Limits, Quotas and Usage page before provisioning: account status and regional capacity can affect what is available. Oracle’s Always Free Resources documentation should be checked again when you create the instance.

Oracle’s Linux launch tutorial illustrates a one-OCPU, 6-GB A1 instance with 1 Gbps network bandwidth, and its A1 compute shape reference states 1 Gbps per OCPU. Nominal network bandwidth is not evidence that a VM can encode a particular source continuously. Codec build, source resolution, filters, audio, and system load all affect the result; measure the actual pipeline under representative conditions.
Oracle says Always Free compute may be reclaimed as idle when CPU utilization at the 95th percentile, network utilization, and—in the case of A1—memory utilization are each below 20% over a seven-day period. A quiet or malfunctioning stream can therefore affect both service reliability and instance retention. Review Oracle’s current policy and monitor the instance.

Common failures and what to check
- YouTube reports an unstable or unhealthy stream: Check actual outgoing bitrate, encoder load, network interruptions, frame rate, and keyframe interval. Confirm the output matches the chosen resolution-specific guidance and that the interval is two seconds or less than four.
- The VM cannot keep up with encoding: Check CPU and memory use while the real source and filters are active. Reduce output demands or simplify processing, then retest; published bandwidth alone does not measure encoding capacity.
- The stream stops when the input drops: Check whether the input supports reconnection and whether FFmpeg or the service manager restarts the process. Configure and test recovery behavior for the particular source rather than assuming all feeds reconnect the same way.
- The instance disappears or is reclaimed: Review Always Free eligibility, regional availability, tenancy quotas, and the idle-compute policy. Monitor CPU, network, and A1 memory use over time.
- The stream key is rejected or exposed: Verify that the key matches the intended YouTube broadcast and that the RTMPS destination is correct. If the key has been shared publicly, replace it in YouTube and update the managed service configuration.
- Video plays but audio is missing or wrong: Check that the input contains the intended audio track and that the output uses a supported codec and channel layout. For stereo, YouTube’s advanced recommendation is AAC at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps.
