Oops! Ab Kya? is an easygoing Hindi comedy-drama whose central mix-up—an accidental insemination—sets off family, workplace and romantic complications. Its cast and intergenerational scenes help the series along, but the comedy’s light touch sits uneasily beside its questions about sex, pregnancy and a woman’s control over her own body. Whether that tension works for you is the key to deciding if it is worth watching.
What is Oops! Ab Kya? about?
Roohi, a young woman who has not had sex, becomes pregnant after a fertility-clinic mix-up mistakenly uses her employer Samar’s sperm. The sample was intended for another couple. The fictional error is the story’s inciting device, not a depiction of typical medical practice.
Roohi has to navigate the consequences with her family, her boyfriend Omkar, Samar and the couple for whom the sample was meant. She works at a hotel, dates Omkar, a police officer, and has a crush on Samar. The pregnancy brings these relationships into collision, while the family story spans three generations of women.
The series moves among comedy, family melodrama and romance, with crime, thriller and whodunit elements folded into the plot. That variety gives it more than one source of momentum, though it also creates several threads competing for attention.
What works: cast chemistry and comic accessibility
OTTplay’s Swetha Ramakrishnan praises the performances and the scenes between the women of different generations, and describes the show as easy to watch and fun. Those strengths suit a story built around relatives reacting differently to the same crisis. The mix of workplace and romantic complications also gives the premise room for lighter, more conventional comedy.
ABP Live’s February 21, 2025 review is more directly positive, calling the series fresh and entertaining and rating it 3/5. That is one critic’s assessment, not evidence of a broader audience consensus.

Where the comedy becomes uncomfortable
Roohi’s pregnancy is not the result of a choice she made, so the show’s treatment of her next decisions matters as much as the comic premise. Nandini Ramnath’s Scroll.in review argues that the story carries “archaic views on sex” and criticizes its conservative approach to premarital sex and bodily autonomy. In the same review, Ramnath finds the account of people trying to do right by themselves and others engaging.
That combination captures the show’s central tension: it can invite sympathy for Roohi and those around her while framing the situation through familiar moral and family melodrama. Roohi’s mother, Paakhi, was herself an unmarried mother; Scroll.in notes that this history shapes Roohi’s resistance to abortion. The intergenerational connection adds emotional context, but it also makes the series’ handling of reproductive choice especially significant.

How it compares with Jane the Virgin
OTTplay calls Oops! Ab Kya? an “official Hindi adaptation” of Jane the Virgin. Scroll.in traces the story further back: Jane the Virgin remade the Venezuelan telenovela Juana la virgen, and the premise has been adapted in several languages, including in the earlier Hindi series Ek Ladki Anjaani Si.
The most pointed comparison is about tone. Ramakrishnan says the Hindi series lacks the satire aimed at Latin American telenovelas that distinguished Jane the Virgin. Scroll.in’s critique instead emphasizes how the source story’s conservative constraints around sex and women’s bodily autonomy echo in this adaptation. The Indian family setting supplies its own relationships and generational pressures, but the reviews do not suggest that it resolves those underlying tensions.

The critics do not arrive at a single verdict. Ramakrishnan calls the story unoriginal, notes predictable twists and a mid-series lag, and faults the simplification of some subplots. She also considers the show enjoyable and praises its cast. Ramnath’s review stresses the conservative framing of sex and bodily autonomy while still finding the characters’ efforts to act well engaging.
In short, the series’ appeal is less about surprise than about watching a crowded set of relationships react to an extraordinary premise. If you want sharp telenovela satire or consistently tight plotting, the reported weaknesses may matter more than the performances. If you are open to family melodrama with comic and thriller detours, its accessible approach may be enough.
