Yes. Sophia Bush publicly identified as queer in a first-person essay for Glamour published April 25, 2024. She described her sexuality as existing on a spectrum and wrote, “Right now I think the word that best defines it is queer.”
What Sophia Bush said about her sexuality
In her April 25, 2024 essay for Glamour, Bush wrote that her sexuality exists on a spectrum. She chose queer as the word that best defined it for her at that point, adding: “I can’t say it without smiling, actually. And that feels pretty great.”
Her words are her own description, made in the context of that essay. The statement does not require speculation about a more specific label or about how she may describe herself at another time.
Why she chose to share it publicly
Bush wrote that she disliked the idea that she had to come out in 2024. She nevertheless wanted to acknowledge the significance of doing so in the political climate she described. In the essay, she cited more than 500 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills proposed in U.S. state legislatures in 2023, attributing the figure to CNN. That is a historical count of proposed bills for 2023, not a count of bills enacted or a current tally.

She also addressed the public attention surrounding her relationship with soccer player Ashlyn Harris and her decision to speak about her identity. Bush’s essay is the source for her account; public gossip and online accusations are not established facts simply because they circulated.
The personal context in her essay
Bush connected the changes in her life to her divorce and fertility treatment, describing those experiences in her own account. A contemporaneous Los Angeles Times report published the same day summarized the essay as confirming her relationship with Harris and discussing those subjects. The distinction matters: the essay gives Bush’s first-person account, while the Times provides a journalist’s summary.

What she has said since
In June 2025, Bush published another first-person reflection, this time about queer love and Pride. It shows that she wrote about the subject again, but it should not be treated as evidence of relationship details beyond what she stated in that reflection.
For additional context on her first Pride Month as an out queer woman, Glamour published a separate June 3, 2024 article.
