It combines metadata lookups from dance-music stores and catalogues, Spotify-related features, manual keyboard tagging, and filename renaming on Windows, macOS and Linux. The important 2026 qualification is maintenance: the official GitHub release list shows version 1.7.0, released August 3, 2023, as its latest listed release when checked August 18, 2026. That makes One Tagger useful for a backed-up, testable workflow—not a tool to run blindly across an irreplaceable collection.

What One Tagger is
One Tagger is a local music-metadata manager rather than a player or streaming service. It is designed around DJ fields such as BPM, key, genre, energy, mood, label, catalogue number and release information. The project describes a Rust backend with a Vue.js/Quasar frontend and publishes its source under a GPL-3.0 repository designation.
Its documented sources include Beatport, Traxsource, Juno Download, Discogs, MusicBrainz, Spotify, iTunes, Beatsource, Bandcamp, Deezer and Musixmatch. It can also use Shazam/SongRec-style identification when normal metadata is insufficient. A source being documented does not guarantee that its current website, API, authentication or every field still works.

What it can do
Auto Tag
Auto Tag looks for matches using existing Artist and Title tags, filename information, playlists and exact identifiers such as ISRC where available. You choose the platforms, arrange their fallback order, select fields to write, and decide whether to overwrite existing values or fill only empty fields. Results can then be reviewed as successes or failures. The official feature description is at the project site.
Spotify audio features
Spotify audio features are separate from ordinary Spotify metadata lookup. One Tagger documents retrieval by ISRC or exact match and says a free Spotify account is required. Numerical values can be converted into descriptive labels with configurable thresholds and written to custom fields. Release notes mention Spotify rate-limit handling in 1.5.0, while community discussions reported later API-related access problems; treat this feature as optional until it works in your own current setup. Quick Tag
Quick Tag is the manual DJ workflow. You define energy levels, moods, genres or other characteristics, then apply them with keyboard shortcuts to a folder or playlist. Newer releases support tagging multiple files, and the 1.7.0 changelog mentions an external-player option. Because “energy” and “vibe” are subjective, define a small taxonomy and apply it consistently rather than treating the labels as objective facts.

Manual editing
The built-in editors let you correct automatically matched fields and apply manual changes. The project documents search and a save shortcut, added in earlier releases, which makes cleanup practical after an imperfect lookup.

Auto Rename builds filenames from existing tags and supports sorting and replacement functions. Verify the current template syntax inside your installed build before creating a production rule; do not assume examples from an old release still apply. Rename only after reviewing metadata, preserve extensions, test on a copy, and check for empty variables and duplicate results. A 1.5.1 changelog entry records a fix for accidental deletion involving moved successful or failed files, so keep the original directory and a verified backup.

Audio formats
The repository README lists MP3, AIFF, FLAC and M4A, including AAC and ALAC. Changelog entries separately record WAV through ID3 and OGG support. These containers do not share one metadata model: OGG uses Vorbis comments, MP4/M4A uses its own atom fields, and WAV and AIFF tagging can vary by application. A field that One Tagger writes successfully may still be invisible or mapped differently in Rekordbox, Serato, Traktor or another DJ application.

The 1.6.0 changelog also mentions an Android version, but current Android distribution should be verified separately before relying on it.
How to install it safely
- Open the official site or GitHub Releases and choose the build for your operating system.
- Extract the downloaded archive where required, then run the executable or application bundle.
- On macOS, respond to Gatekeeper only after checking that the download came from the official release source and that its provenance is clear.
- Copy a small, representative group of tracks into a test folder. Do not start with the master library.
- Configure one metadata source and one or two fields before attempting a batch.
Building from source
The repository’s documented Linux/macOS and Windows prerequisites include Rust or rustup, Node.js, pnpm and, on Windows, Visual Studio 2019 Build Tools plus required system packages. Its documented build sequence is:

How to tag a DJ library without risking it
- Back up first. Use a separate copy or a verified backup that you can restore.
- Build a mixed test set. Include complete and partial tags, filename-only tracks, several stores, multiple formats and deliberately ambiguous titles.
- Use one source initially. Test Beatport, Discogs, MusicBrainz or another source independently before enabling a broad fallback chain.
- Limit the fields. Start with fields you actually need—such as Artist, Title, Album, Year, Genre, BPM, Key, Label and artwork.
- Choose fill-empty mode. Preserve existing data until match quality is proven; postpone overwrite mode.
- Inspect every questionable result. Pay special attention to remixes, edits, radio versions, live recordings, bootlegs, reissues and identical Artist/Title pairs.
- Check the target DJ application. Rescan or refresh its database and confirm that the fields appear where expected.
- Rename last. Snapshot the test folder, verify unique filenames, then test the renamed copy before changing paths in the live library.
How matching works—and where it fails
Clean Artist and Title tags improve every source. Remove obvious filename noise such as bitrate labels and download suffixes, but retain remix and version text; deleting it can select the wrong release. Prefer ISRC or another exact identifier when available. Playlists and filename parsing can help when tags are missing, while Shazam-style identification is best treated as a discovery aid.
Duration matching is available for specialized cases, but the changelog describes it as strict and recommends caution. A failed match is safer than a false positive. If a source returns nothing, try a second source, correct the ISRC or metadata, search manually, or use Quick Tag instead of repeatedly retrying a large batch under possible rate limiting.

The wrong track was matched
Stop the batch and restore the backup or untouched copy. Clean Artist and Title values, preserve remix/version wording, narrow the source list and use an exact identifier where possible. Correct low-confidence results manually.

Tags appear in One Tagger but not in the DJ software
The DJ application may read another field, require a rescan, or interpret the container differently. Inspect the file with a second tag editor, compare exact field names, refresh the DJ database and test MP3, FLAC, M4A, WAV and OGG separately.
Files were renamed or moved incorrectly
Restore the backup, simplify the template, include a unique identifier, and test on a copy. Empty variables, duplicate names, punctuation and movement settings can all produce unexpected paths. Keep the original directory until the result is confirmed.
Spotify features do not work
Confirm the account requirement, try a file with an ISRC, reduce the batch size and treat audio features as optional. API permissions, rate limits and exact-match failures can all block the request.
Who should use One Tagger?
Good fit
- DJs maintaining local Rekordbox, Serato, Traktor, VirtualDJ or similar libraries.
- Collectors with poorly tagged downloads from dance-music stores.
- Users who want custom energy, mood and genre fields alongside automated metadata.
- People comfortable reviewing matches, making backups and troubleshooting integrations.
Less suitable
- Users wanting a fully automatic, album-oriented archival process.
- Anyone requiring guaranteed current APIs, commercial support or cloud processing.
- Libraries needing dependable acoustic fingerprinting for every unidentified file.
- Users whose DJ software depends on proprietary fields or who cannot risk a destructive write.

Verdict
One Tagger remains a compelling specialist tool when the job is enriching local DJ files from several catalogues and then applying consistent manual classifications. Its cross-platform builds, open-source code, Quick Tag workflow and multi-source design are genuine advantages. The latest listed release, however, is 1.7.0 from August 3, 2023, and external services can change without warning. Use it with backups, a small test batch, conservative field settings and a final check in the DJ software that will read the files. If current integrations, guaranteed support or fully automated archival accuracy matter more than free software and DJ-specific flexibility, choose a more actively maintained or commercial alternative.
