The official character search result calls his fruit a “failed” prototype, but that label does not mean it gave him no power. His perception of Zunesha is separate from the fruit, and the available sources do not establish that Momonosuke has mastered every ability associated with Kaido’s dragon form.
What powers does Momonosuke have?
- Dragon transformation: Momonosuke ate an artificial Devil Fruit and can transform into a dragon. The official ONE PIECE.com character search result identifies the fruit as artificial and calls it a failed prototype; a character-specific secondary reference describes the dragon transformation. ONE PIECE.com’s character reference and the One Piece Wiki character overview provide those respective details.
- Hearing Zunesha: A secondary overview reports that Momonosuke heard Zunesha’s cry for help. This is a rare perception feat, not an ability granted by the fruit as far as the cited material establishes.
Why was Momonosuke’s Devil Fruit called a failure?
The official character search result labels the fruit a failed prototype, while the character reference describes a working dragon transformation. So “failed” does not mean “powerless.” The available sources do not explain what criteria Vegapunk used to judge the prototype a failure, and they do not establish that it reproduces every property of the fruit associated with Kaido.
ONE PIECE.com’s Devil Fruit explainer describes Zoan fruits as enabling animal transformations and discusses Vegapunk’s artificial-fruit research. Momonosuke’s fruit should therefore be described as artificial, not as an ordinary natural Devil Fruit.
Does Momonosuke have the same Devil Fruit as Kaido?
No: the sources identify Momonosuke’s fruit as an artificial prototype, while the secondary character reference associates his dragon transformation with the ability linked to Kaido’s dragon fruit. That resemblance supports a comparison, but it does not prove the fruits are identical in origin or that Momonosuke can use every technique associated with Kaido.

| Transformation | A secondary character overview describes a dragon form. One Piece Wiki | His dragon ability is the point of comparison in that overview; a full inventory of his forms is not established by the cited material. |
| Mastery | The cited sources do not verify a complete list of Momonosuke’s dragon-related techniques. | The cited sources do not provide a feat-by-feat comparison of mastery. |
| Hearing Zunesha | Reported separately from the fruit in the secondary overview. One Piece Wiki | Not addressed by the cited comparison sources. |
What does Momonosuke’s ability to hear Zunesha mean?
A secondary overview says Momonosuke hears Zunesha’s cry for help. This kind of perception is commonly discussed in relation to the Voice of All Things, but its exact nature is not clearly defined in the cited official editorial discussion. The ONE PIECE.com discussion was published on April 6, 2016, so it should not be treated as a definitive account of every later development in the story: “第55回:Please Remember It #2”.
Which abilities should not be assumed?
A dragon-shaped transformation alone is not evidence that Momonosuke has demonstrated every power associated with Kaido. The cited sources do not verify a complete, feat-by-feat list of his combat techniques, nor do they establish a full set of abilities such as a hybrid form, Haki, sword skills, fire breath, or flame clouds. Avoid presenting those as confirmed Momonosuke abilities without direct support from the relevant story scenes.
