The film behind the 2025 set photos is now officially titled The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. Brad Pitt returns as Cliff Booth, with David Fincher directing from a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino. The reported filming is past news: the photos were taken in Malibu in September 2025. As of October 8, 2026, Netflix has scheduled an IMAX release for November 25 and a Netflix debut for December 23, 2026; both dates are subject to change.
Which sequel do the set photos show?
The photos concern a new Cliff Booth story following Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (2019), rather than a new film directed by Tarantino. Netflix’s official title is The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. Pitt reprises his role, Fincher directs, and Tarantino wrote the screenplay. Netflix has announced the title, credits, synopsis, and release schedule in its Tudum announcement and its Media Center listing.
What did the 2025 set photos show?
A September 9, 2025 report by Just Jared said Pitt had been seen filming in Malibu on September 7, with Scott Caan also on set. The report described an oceanfront balcony scene and said it was the first time Pitt and Caan had been pictured together for the movie; the photos were credited to Backgrid. Those details are a dated snapshot of filming, not evidence that production is starting now. See the Just Jared report.
RogerEbert.com’s 2026 preview also refers to set photos as confirmation that the sequel existed, placing the early reports in context. Netflix’s own announcements are the stronger source for the film’s current title, credits, story details, and planned release dates. RogerEbert.com’s 2026 preview.

What is the film about?
Netflix places the story in 1977, eight years after Cliff’s encounter with the Manson family in Tarantino’s alternate-history version of 1969 Los Angeles. Cliff is described as a Hollywood fixer who earns money bartending and working as a projectionist. Talent agent Karen Crosby, played by Elizabeth Debicki, brings him into the orbit of television star Charlie Peters (Caan). Peters’ world also includes his wife Toni (Carla Gugino) and Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a former football champion turned screen actor. Netflix also names Peter Weller, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian. The official synopsis describes a crime story involving violence, ambition, and desire.
