Accounts relayed from the set of Netflix’s With Love, Meghan describe a relaxed, food-sharing production where director Michael Steed wanted to leave the mistakes and mess in view. An unnamed crew member also told People, in remarks reported by Us Weekly, that Markle helped make people across the crew feel included. These are attributed accounts, not evidence that every person on set shared the same experience.

How director Michael Steed described the set

Steed’s remarks, from a People interview published March 8, 2025, and reproduced by Us Weekly the next day, portray Markle’s cooking as personal and approachable rather than professional-chef performance. He said: “Her cooking is pretty spot-on. She’s not a chef, and it’s definitely not meant to make it seem like she is, but there’s just a love of cooking that is palpable.” (Us Weekly)

He also said the farmhouse kitchen was not Markle’s own, and that the crew did not conceal her looking around for things as she got used to it: “For me, imperfection is a wonderful thing. It was fun watching her trying to get used to the kitchen, because it’s not her place, so we didn’t hide that fact, and she’s kind of walking and looking for things.”

Steed summarized his approach this way: “I really wanted to embrace and celebrate all of the mistakes and mess and all that good stuff.” The comments suggest a production willing to show small uncertainties rather than edit every moment into a seamless cooking demonstration.

What one crew member said about Markle

An unnamed crew member told People, as quoted in Us Weekly’s March 9 report, that Markle was “warm,” “approachable,” and “genuine.” The crew member said: “She made sure everyone felt included, from Netflix executives to our director to every PA on set. No one was left out.” (Us Weekly)

The same anonymous account described food being shared between takes and recurring treats that included coffee, shaved ice, local ice cream, and acai. Because the source was not named, this is one person’s reported impression, not a verified account of every crew member’s experience.

Why filming took place in a farmhouse, not the family home

With Love, Meghan was filmed at a California farmhouse rather than Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s actual Montecito home, according to ELLE Decor. Markle explained that she wanted to keep the family home private: the kitchen there was for cooking for her family, and bringing a crew of more than 80 people into the house would change that space. (ELLE Decor)

That distinction helps explain why Steed described Markle getting used to a kitchen that was not hers. The unfamiliarity was part of the setting, not proof that the show was filmed in the family’s own home.

How the series was structured

Season one premiered on Netflix on March 4, 2025, after its planned January release was delayed because of the Los Angeles wildfires, Sky News reported. The season had eight episodes, each about 30 minutes long. The format brought friends together to cook, make things, and talk about personal tips and everyday life. (Sky News)

A small kitchen detail viewers may recognize

ELLE Decor identified a shallow, cream-colored Le Creuset braiser among the cookware and serveware seen in the series. The publication did not identify its model, so the color and shape alone are not enough to establish an exact product match.

What the accounts do—and do not—establish

The available descriptions point to a set where the production embraced an imperfect kitchen routine and where at least one crew member recalled thoughtful food and an inclusive atmosphere. They do not establish a unanimous crew view, and the comments should be read as Steed’s and one unnamed worker’s accounts rather than a definitive verdict on everyone’s experience.
