The later year appears in Rich’s bibliography as another edition. Rich examined motherhood as both lived experience and a social institution; a 2019 article connected that analysis to anger over anti-abortion laws, but Rich should not be described as having predicted later legislation.
What is Of Woman Born about?
Rich brings personal experience into an examination of how motherhood is organized and shaped by social and political systems. The publisher describes her central distinction as one between the act of mothering and the institution of motherhood: individual relationships and experiences on one hand, and the structures that define and regulate motherhood on the other. Penguin Random House Canada’s description presents the book in those terms.
The first edition’s chapter titles indicate the range of Rich’s inquiry, including “Anger and Tenderness,” “The Kingdom of the Fathers,” “The Domestication of Motherhood,” and “Violence: The Heart of Maternal Darkness.” The Camden County College catalog records the 1976 Norton edition as 318 pages. Why connect Rich’s analysis to anti-abortion laws?
In an article published June 9, 2019, Radhika Oberoi placed Rich’s writing alongside contemporary controversy over anti-abortion laws. Its connection is interpretive: Rich’s account of motherhood as an institution offers a way to consider political conflicts over who has authority over reproduction and the expectations imposed on mothers. The 2019 article also refers to Kristin Luker’s 1984 book Abortion and the Politics of Motherhood. These references describe the article’s context and argument, not a verified account of every law or movement. Scroll.in, June 9, 2019

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That framing does not mean Rich specifically foresaw later anti-abortion legislation. Nor does the 2019 article establish the current legal status of abortion in any jurisdiction; that status depends on place and date and requires current, jurisdiction-specific sources.
