Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf your OBS YouTube stream loses sound after you change videos, first check whether the new video’s audio meter moves in the OBS Audio Mixer. If it does, OBS is receiving audio and the likely issue is monitoring: the configured output device or the source’s monitoring mode. If the meter does not move, check that the new video is playing, contains an audio track, and is active in the current scene.
First, find where the audio path stops
Play the affected video and watch its row in the Audio Mixer. The meter and your headphones test different things: a moving meter shows audio reaching that OBS source, while hearing it locally depends on monitoring being routed to the device you are using.
- Meter moves, but you hear nothing: check the monitoring device and the source’s Audio Monitoring mode.
- Meter does not move: check playback, the file’s audio track, source activity, and the source or device configuration.
A stopped video can also produce no meter activity, so confirm playback before treating a still meter as a configuration fault.
If the meter moves but you cannot hear the video
Confirm OBS’s monitoring device
- Open Settings → Audio.
- Find the monitoring device setting and select the output device you are actually using to listen, such as your current headphones or speakers.
- Apply the change, play the video, and listen again.
The monitoring device is a separate choice from the per-source monitoring mode. If OBS sends monitoring to a different output, the mixer can show audio activity while you hear nothing on your chosen device.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set the source’s monitoring mode
- In the Audio Mixer, open the gear menu, or choose Edit → Advanced Audio Properties.
- Find the row for the affected source and inspect Audio Monitoring.
- Choose the mode that matches what you want viewers to hear:
| Mode | You hear it locally? | Included in stream or recording? |
|---|---|---|
| Monitor Off | No | Not established by the monitoring-mode comparison; this setting disables local monitoring. |
| Monitor Only | Yes | No |
| Monitor and Output | Yes | Yes |
Use Monitor Only only when you want local listening without sending that source to stream or recording output. If YouTube viewers must hear the video, use Monitor and Output or another routing arrangement that includes it in the output. Do not select Monitor Only as a fix for audio that viewers need.
If the meter does not move after changing videos
Check playback and the file
- Make sure the newly selected video is actually playing; a paused or stopped source may have no meter activity.
- Confirm that the media file contains an audio track and that the intended source is the one playing it.
- Activate the source and allow a moment for it to load. OBS media sources can be configured to close their file while inactive, so a source may take a short time to reload when it becomes visible again.
Check the active scene and audio source
After a scene change, verify that the expected media source or Audio Input/Output Capture source is present and active in the current scene. An inactive source may not appear in Advanced Audio Properties when an Active Sources Only filter is in effect; activate it or adjust the filter before checking its row.

If you use an Audio Input/Output Capture source inside a scene, compare it with the devices selected under Settings → Audio. Capturing the same device in both places can cause echo. Keep both routes only if your setup intentionally needs them.
Isolate the cause if the first checks do not fix it
- Play the same content while watching the mixer meter.
- Test whether the problem follows the media source by trying another video with known audio.
- Test whether it follows the scene by playing the source in another scene where it is active.
- Test whether it follows the output device by selecting the output you are listening on as OBS’s monitoring device.
- Recheck the source’s Audio Monitoring mode after making it active.
These checks distinguish a media or scene issue from a monitoring-device or routing issue. There is no single confirmed fix for every case: the operating system, OBS version, and source configuration can change the cause.

Common symptoms and fixes
| What you observe | What to check |
|---|---|
| The mixer meter moves, but you cannot hear the video | Confirm the monitoring device in Settings → Audio and the source’s Audio Monitoring mode in Advanced Audio Properties. |
| You hear the video, but YouTube viewers do not | Check that the source is not set to Monitor Only; that mode is local monitoring without stream or recording output. |
| The new video’s meter is still | Confirm playback and an audio track, then make the source active and allow it to reload. |
| Audio disappears after switching scenes | Check that the expected media or capture source is present and active in the current scene. |
| You hear an echo after adding a scene capture source | Check for the same device being selected in both Settings → Audio and a scene-specific capture source. |
Copyright and YouTube playback checks
Fixing monitoring only addresses how OBS routes audio; it does not establish that you have permission to stream the video or its soundtrack. Before broadcasting, make sure you have the rights needed for the video and audio. A meter moving, or audio being audible in a test, does not determine whether the content is permitted on YouTube.

If the goal is to keep uploaded videos playing on a YouTube channel 24/7, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option rather than an OBS audio-monitoring fix. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; the cloud loops the uploaded videos, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the files as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.
