For a Kannada devotional video loop, start with OBS at 720p, 30 fps, H.264, CBR, and 8 Mbps video bitrate; use a 2-second keyframe interval and stereo AAC audio at 128 Kbps. If your source is genuinely 1080p and your upload connection can sustain it, use 1080p30 at 14 Mbps instead. These are YouTube-recommended H.264 ingest bitrates, not guarantees of a stable stream. Test with representative audio and movement before going live.
Recommended OBS settings for a devotional loop
A mostly static image or slowly moving devotional video generally does not benefit from 60 fps or 4K. Choose a resolution that suits the source and a bitrate your connection can maintain continuously.
| Setting | Starting recommendation | When to change it |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 1280Ă—720 at 30 fps | Use 1920Ă—1080 at 30 fps if the source is genuinely 1080p and the connection is stable. |
| Video codec | H.264 | Use the encoding option supported by your encoder and YouTube ingest configuration. |
| Rate control | CBR | Keep the bitrate constant for the live ingest. |
| Video bitrate | 8 Mbps for 720p30; 14 Mbps for 1080p30 | Reduce the bitrate or resolution if YouTube reports an unhealthy stream or the connection cannot sustain it. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio | Stereo AAC or MP3; 128 Kbps recommended | Use 44.1 kHz for stereo audio, and verify the level and sound during the test. |
| Color space | Rec. 709 for SDR | Use this for standard dynamic range video. |
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS where available | HLS is an alternative when the workflow requires it, but it involves additional settings and higher latency. |
The bitrate values are YouTube’s recommendations for H.264 ingest, not a promise that any particular upload connection will be reliable. YouTube recommends testing before streaming and checking the incoming stream. See YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Set up YouTube Live and connect OBS
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream. Set its visibility to public, private, or unlisted as intended, and decide whether to enable DVR if viewers should be able to pause or rewind. YouTube describes these controls in its live stream settings.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a stream to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room.
- In OBS, select the YouTube-compatible stream service or enter the provided server URL and key. Choose RTMPS where available, then set the video and audio encoding to match the settings above. OBS labels can vary by version and operating system.
- Add the intended loop video or image and audio to the scene. Preview it to confirm the correct artwork is visible, audio plays, and the loop transitions as intended.
- Start a test stream and check YouTube’s stream health and messages in Live Control Room. Use audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast. Confirm that sound is audible without clipping and that no unintended black frames appear.
- If the test is unstable, lower the video bitrate or resolution, then test again. YouTube’s guidance is that total stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth; it does not prescribe one universal speed margin.

Choose resolution, latency, and viewer playback behavior
720p30 or 1080p30
For a largely static devotional loop, 720p30 at 8 Mbps is a practical lower-bandwidth starting point. Choose 1080p30 at 14 Mbps when the artwork or video is actually 1080p and your upload is reliably capable of sustaining the higher total bitrate. Upscaling a smaller source does not add detail.
Frame rate and latency
Thirty frames per second is usually sufficient for a still image or slow movement. Higher frame rates are useful when the source has motion that benefits from them and the connection can handle the added bitrate. YouTube supports frame rates up to 60 fps. For a one-way devotional loop, audience interaction may not call for the lowest possible latency; YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering.

Viewer quality options
YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers, so you do not need to send a separate stream for each viewer resolution. OBS notes that stable keyframes help viewers move smoothly between quality options; YouTube’s current encoder guidance should take precedence over secondary platform notes.
RTMPS or HLS
Prefer RTMPS where it is available. YouTube documents HLS as an alternative, but HLS requires additional segment and playlist configuration and has higher latency because it sends video in segments. Use it only when the workflow calls for it. See YouTube’s encoder settings and HLS ingestion guidance.

Check rights before looping devotional material
Devotional subject matter does not automatically make a recording copyright-free. Check the rights for the exact song recording, performance, artwork, and video you plan to broadcast or replay, along with applicable YouTube requirements. The available guidance does not determine whether any particular Kannada devotional asset is cleared for live use; when uncertain, obtain permission or use material you have the right to stream.
Troubleshoot common OBS and YouTube problems
- YouTube reports an unstable or unhealthy stream: The outgoing bitrate may be too high for the sustained upload, or the connection may fluctuate. Reduce resolution or bitrate and repeat the preflight test.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check that OBS uses the correct server URL and current stream key, and that the stream is started in OBS. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS.
- The stream looks soft or blocky: Confirm the source’s actual resolution and that OBS is using the intended resolution and bitrate. Do not select 1080p merely to upscale a lower-resolution source.
- Audio is missing, too quiet, or distorted: Check the scene’s audio source and OBS meters, then listen during a test. Adjust levels to avoid clipping and confirm the selected AAC or MP3 stereo output.
- A black frame appears between loops: Preview the full loop transition and inspect the source file or scene behavior. Test the same loop before publishing and replace or edit the source if the black frame is part of the asset.
- Viewers experience buffering: Check YouTube stream health and the upload connection, and consider reducing bitrate or choosing a higher-latency mode if the stream prioritizes stable playback over immediacy.
