For a first test, set OBS to 1280×720 at 30 fps, H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and 4,000 kbps video bitrate. YouTube recommends 4 Mbps for H.264 video at 240p–720p and 30 fps; that is a platform encoder recommendation, not proof that your particular 4G hotspot can sustain it. Test the connection where the equipment will run, then lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate if stream health is poor.
Recommended OBS settings to test first
These settings are a practical starting point for a mobile connection, not a guaranteed fit for every carrier, location, phone, or hotspot. YouTube publishes encoder recommendations, but not a special bitrate for Indian 4G networks.

YouTube also recommends testing with representative audio and movement, choosing quality your connection can reliably support, and monitoring stream health. It transcodes a live stream into multiple formats for viewers, so OBS does not need to send a separate version for every viewer’s device. Choose a format based on the connection you measure
Use a sustained upload test at the actual hotspot location as a screening check—not a brief peak result. The connection must keep carrying the selected bitrate continuously, with enough capacity for audio and network overhead. The published figures below are YouTube H.264 recommendations, not measurements of Indian carriers or local coverage.

Payload estimates are arithmetic calculations using bitrate × time ÷ 8 and decimal GB. They exclude audio, protocol overhead, retransmissions, and variable-rate behavior; carrier data accounting can differ. Check your plan’s allowance before attempting a continuous broadcast. YouTube’s encoder recommendations are listed in its live encoder settings.
If the test at 720p30 has connection or stream-health problems, lower the output resolution or frame rate and test again. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether the change helped. A lower-bandwidth format may be a better fit, but the outcome depends on your location, carrier, signal, and equipment.

Set up OBS and verify the stream before going 24/7
- Measure at the intended location. Connect the computer to the 4G hotspot where it will operate and test upload speed. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate; a short speed-test peak does not establish that the connection can hold a stream continuously.
- Configure OBS output. In Settings → Output, select an H.264 encoder your system supports, set rate control to CBR, and enter the bitrate you intend to test. In the relevant encoder options, set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. In Settings → Video, set the output resolution and frame rate, starting with 1280×720 and 30 fps.
- Configure audio and stream connection. Use AAC stereo audio at 128 kbps. In OBS’s stream settings, connect the YouTube account or enter the stream key from YouTube Studio. Keep the key private: anyone with it may be able to broadcast to the channel. Use RTMPS when the selected YouTube ingest option supports it.
- Run a representative test. Make an unlisted or otherwise suitable test broadcast using the real scene, audio, and movement. YouTube says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Check the stream preview and stream health rather than judging only by whether OBS shows that it is connected.
- Adjust only after observing a problem. If health indicators show that the connection cannot sustain the chosen output, lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate and repeat the test. Avoid raising quality just because one short test looked fast.
- Verify operational limits before leaving it running. Check hotspot and computer power, device temperature, carrier plan data allowance and terms, and coverage at the exact location. These are checks to make, not guaranteed causes or fixes; no general Indian carrier or 4G hotspot setting establishes 24/7 reliability.
If the stream will not connect or drops during testing, consult OBS’s stream-connection troubleshooting steps. OBS suggests checks that include trying a different server and checking whether network software affects OBS traffic.
Copyright and documentary content checks
Before scheduling a continuous broadcast, make sure you have the rights to every documentary, clip, photograph, music track, and other material in the stream. A video being available online does not itself grant permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube may apply copyright rules to live streams, and a technically stable broadcast can still be interrupted or restricted for rights reasons.

Also consider whether a channel built around looping existing footage complies with YouTube’s applicable monetization rules. Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions; having permission does not guarantee monetization. Review YouTube’s current policies before relying on a 24/7 loop for channel income.
