Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a silent 24/7 ambient-video stream, use an OBS scene with a looping media source, H.264 video, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval. Set resolution and bitrate to match your stable upload speed, disable or mute every audio input, and test the exact setup in YouTube’s preview before starting a long broadcast. Plan a local recording if you need a complete archive: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
Build and test the looping ambient scene
- Add the video: In OBS, create a scene and add the ambient clip as a Media Source. Enable looping in the source’s properties. OBS’s overview explains scenes and sources, but menu locations can vary by version; check the current source controls.
- Check the loop: Preview the clip through its end and restart. Look for a black frame, pause, or abrupt visual jump. If the source does not restart cleanly, adjust the asset or transition before going live.
- Set the output: In Settings → Video, choose the output resolution and frame rate you intend to send. YouTube supports up to 60 fps; for mostly static ambient imagery, 30 fps is a sensible starting point, not a platform requirement.
- Configure the encoder: In OBS output settings, select H.264 and CBR, and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1; the available choices depend on your OBS version and hardware. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its keyframe recommendation is two seconds, with four seconds as the maximum.
OBS setting names and encoder choices can differ by version and system. The important targets are the YouTube-compatible format, rate control, keyframe interval, and a bitrate your connection can sustain.
Choose resolution and bitrate for your upload
Use a sustained upload measurement rather than your download speed. YouTube recommends keeping 20% of upload bandwidth in reserve, so do not configure the stream to consume your connection’s full measured capacity.
| Output | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended | AV1 or H.265 minimum | AV1 or H.265 recommended |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s listed live-ingest figures, not a guarantee that a particular connection will stay stable. With limited upload capacity, 720p30 may be a more practical first trial than 1080p30. Choose the highest resolution and bitrate that remain stable with headroom; ambient footage with little motion may not benefit enough from a higher setting to justify an unreliable stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Make the stream silent—and verify the audio track
- Open Settings → Audio in OBS and disable desktop and microphone devices you do not need.
- Inspect the Audio Mixer and the scene’s sources. Mute or disable any audio source attached to the scene or media source, including audio embedded in the video.
- Start a private or unlisted rehearsal and check YouTube’s Live Control Room preview to confirm that no unintended sound is audible.
YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS encoder guidance lists AAC and MP3 as supported audio codecs, but it does not establish that every ingest setup accepts a stream with no audio track at all. Test the exact no-track configuration. If your ingest setup requires an audio track, rehearse with a silent track as a compatibility fallback; it adds no audible content.
Rehearse, monitor, and protect the archive
Before going live
- Test the exact scene, loop, resolution, frame rate, encoder, network, and audio configuration you plan to use.
- Check YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages before starting a long run.
- During the test, watch for dropped frames and encoder overload. OBS recommends testing, and YouTube recommends a test stream and continuous monitoring of audio and video quality.
Keep a local copy if the full event matters
YouTube says a stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. As YouTube puts it, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” YouTube recommends a local archive backup. OBS recommends MKV for most recording use cases because a recording interrupted before it is finalized remains recoverable; you can remux it later if you need another container. A local recording adds storage needs and encoder load, so plan both before a 24/7 broadcast.

Troubleshoot dropped frames and unstable playback
- Dropped frames or a fluctuating connection: OBS says this can indicate an unstable connection or a bitrate higher than the connection can sustain. Lower the bitrate, test another ingest server if one is available, and use wired networking where practical.
- Wired connection but continued problems: Ethernet may help with Wi-Fi instability, but it cannot fix inadequate ISP upload capacity, encoder overload, or other causes. Check upload headroom and OBS’s encoder status separately.
- Black frame or pause at the clip boundary: Recheck the media source’s loop setting and preview the entire end-to-start transition. Correct the media or transition before relying on a long run.
- No-audio stream fails ingest: YouTube’s published encoder guidance does not settle whether every setup accepts an absent audio track. Rehearse privately; if required, send a verified silent audio track.
- Need a complete recording: Do not rely on YouTube’s archive for a stream exceeding 12 hours. Use OBS’s local recording option and allow for its storage and encoder demands.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the YouTube stream to continue without leaving OBS and a computer running at home, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos and playlists from the cloud. Upload your ambient video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the uploaded file streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
