Use an OBS Profile for the broadcast configuration and a Scene Collection for the scenes and sources. For one dedicated stream with one service and a stable layout, one of each is usually enough. They are complementary settings sets, not a special 24/7 mode or a guarantee of uninterrupted broadcasting.
What an OBS Profile saves
An OBS Profile stores stream, video, and output settings. That includes the configured streaming service or connected account, video configuration such as base (canvas) resolution, and output settings. OBS explicitly notes that Profiles do not store scenes; see the OBS Profiles guide.
Create another Profile when those broadcast settings need a separate saved configuration—for example, if you use a different service, resolution, or output arrangement for a different network condition.
What a Scene Collection saves
A Scene Collection stores scenes and sources: the elements that compose the presentation, such as audio, browser, image, media, and video capture sources. It also includes Global Audio Sources configured under Settings → Audio. It does not store output settings; see the OBS Scene Collections guide and Sources Guide.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use another collection when the show layout or its inputs differ—for example, a separate podcast layout or a recording-only arrangement without streaming overlays.
Which setup makes sense for a dedicated stream?
If the service, video configuration, output settings, and presentation are stable, keep one clearly named Profile and one clearly named Scene Collection. Put the stream’s broadcast configuration in the Profile; put its intended on-air scenes, media, graphics, and other sources in the collection.

Switching one does not switch or configure the other: selecting a Profile does not select its scenes, and selecting a Scene Collection does not configure the stream output. Add another saved set only when the settings it controls genuinely need to differ.
Check the configuration before going live
- Check the active Profile. Confirm the intended service or account, video configuration, and output settings.
- Check the active Scene Collection. Confirm the expected scene is selected, its sources are correct and visible, and its global audio sources are appropriate.
- Test the setup. OBS recommends double-checking settings and making a test stream or recording before the real session. That recommendation is not an endurance test or a 24/7 uptime guarantee. See the Quick Start Guide and OBS Studio Overview Guide.
Moving Profiles or Scene Collections to another computer
OBS documents Profile settings export and import as JSON. Scene Collection import supports OBS Studio collections and migration from certain other broadcast applications. OBS also says imported collections created on other operating systems are adjusted for the current operating system. After importing, inspect the result on the destination computer: do not assume devices, media files, plugins, or external services have all transferred or will work automatically. Interface details and migration behavior can vary by installed OBS version.

Or let it run in the cloud
OBS Profiles and Scene Collections organize a local OBS setup; they do not keep a computer or home connection from becoming a point of failure. For an always-on YouTube stream made from uploaded video, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos and streams to YouTube, not from a camera or to other platforms. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
