These are separate checkpoints and point to different causes. The troubleshooting steps below apply in India, but the documented OBS and YouTube behaviors are general; the India context alone does not establish a regional defect.
First identify where the picture gets stuck
Watch the stream at the moment one video should end and the next should begin. Check these three places:
- OBS preview or program: If the next clip does not appear here, investigate the source, playlist, VLC installation, and visibility settings.
- YouTube Live Control Room preview: If OBS changes clips but this preview does not, investigate the encoder output, stream health, and upload connection.
- One viewer’s player: If Live Control Room advances but a viewer sees a freeze or delay, test that viewer’s device and connection before changing the OBS playlist.

Fix an OBS playlist that does not advance
1. Use the playlist-capable source
In OBS, open the source’s properties from the Sources dock. For a list of multiple files, confirm that the source is VLC Video and that the intended files appear in its playlist. OBS documents VLC Video as the source type that supports playlists. A regular Media Source is a different source type, with playback controls for an individual media file rather than the playlist described in OBS’s guide.

2. Confirm VLC is installed and matches OBS
VLC Video requires VLC to be installed. If the source is unavailable or cannot play the list, install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS: OBS’s guide specifically says 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.

3. Check the playlist and visibility settings
Open the VLC Video source properties and review the playlist entries, Loop Playlist, Shuffle Playlist, and Visibility Behaviour. Set looping and shuffle to match the order you want. OBS lists Stop when not visible, restart when visible as the default visibility behavior. If the source becomes hidden during a scene change, playback may stop or restart instead of continuing as expected. To isolate this, test with the source visible continuously across a clip transition.
4. Confirm that OBS itself changes clips
Watch the OBS preview or program when the current file reaches its end. If it remains on the same clip, keep troubleshooting the source and its files before changing YouTube settings. Check that the next playlist entry is present and playable, VLC is installed correctly, and the source is not being hidden in a way that interrupts playback.

If OBS advances but YouTube does not
If the local OBS output changes clips while Live Control Room does not, check YouTube’s stream-health message and the encoder’s output. YouTube recommends verifying that the encoder is current, checking audio and video directly in it, reviewing encoder errors and CPU load, and testing outbound internet strength if the encoder output looks healthy. Check upload capacity and dropped frames
Your upload connection must sustain the stream’s total bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving bandwidth room: its guidance says to leave 20% headroom. OBS’s connection guidance associates dropped frames with an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain, and suggests starting at about 75% of total upload speed for video bitrate. Treat both figures as starting recommendations, not guarantees for a particular Indian ISP, route, or time of day. Reduce OBS load only if performance points to it
If OBS indicates rendering or encoding trouble, check system load and OBS performance indicators. OBS recommends reducing output resolution or frame rate and simplifying scenes when GPU or rendering load prevents it from keeping up. This is relevant when performance evidence points to a rendering problem; it is not the first response to a playlist configured with the wrong source type. Ask the viewer to try another supported device and connection, and check whether their network is congested. YouTube notes that congestion and other factors can delay live programming. A freeze on one viewer’s screen does not, by itself, show that OBS failed to advance the playlist. See YouTube’s streaming and video troubleshooting guidance.
