Choose settings your connection can sustain, then test the actual playlist before relying on the stream.
Recommended starting settings for a BSNL connection

These are starting settings, not a claim that every BSNL broadband or Bharat Fiber line can sustain them. Your plan, location, access technology, Wi-Fi, congestion, time of day, and competing household traffic can all affect usable upload capacity. An advertised download rate does not tell you what upload bitrate your stream can reliably hold.
How YouTube’s live bitrate recommendations compare
YouTube’s 2026 live-ingestion recommendations for H.264 vary by output resolution and frame rate. These are platform recommendations, not guarantees about the capacity of an individual BSNL line.

Do not use YouTube’s recommendations for uploading a prerecorded video to decide a live stream bitrate; live ingestion uses a separate set of settings. YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 for live video, up to 60 fps, and recommends CBR and Rec. 709 for SDR. For a widely compatible first test, use H.264, CBR, AAC stereo, and RTMPS where available.

Set up OBS for the playlist
- Add the playlist to your OBS scene. Confirm the video and audio sources play as intended before streaming. A test should use the same playlist, movement, and audio you plan to broadcast.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube, and enter the stream key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Set output bitrate and encoder. In Settings → Output, set the streaming video bitrate and audio bitrate. Select H.264 and CBR, then set the keyframe interval to two seconds. OBS’s bitrate guidance says the setting should account for available upload speed and the service’s limits.
- Set the scaled output. In Settings → Video, set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280×720 and Common FPS Value to 30. This is the stream output; OBS distinguishes it from the canvas resolution.
- Run a private or unlisted test. Check YouTube’s stream health and OBS’s connection and dropped-frame indicators while the playlist runs. YouTube recommends testing with similar video movement and audio before the event.
Find a bitrate your BSNL line can sustain
Run a speed test over the connection and at the time you expect to stream. Treat the result as a snapshot, not proof of sustained upload capacity to YouTube. OBS’s troubleshooting guidance offers 75% of total upload speed as a starting point when choosing a bitrate during connection trouble; use that only as an initial ceiling. Audio, protocol overhead, other devices, and variation in your connection need headroom, so a fluctuating line calls for a lower setting.
Choose the highest configuration that passes a sustained test with headroom. A mostly static playlist of slides or text may look acceptable at 720p30 with less bitrate than a fast-moving video. Faster motion can benefit from additional bitrate, but raise it only if OBS remains stable and dropped frames do not accumulate.

Troubleshoot dropped frames and stream-health warnings
- OBS reports dropped frames or YouTube stream health degrades: Reduce the OBS video bitrate first, then test again. If the problem continues, lower the output resolution or frame rate from 720p30 and retest.
- A speed test looks fast, but the live stream is unstable: The test does not establish sustained upload performance during a stream. Test with the actual playlist and at the intended streaming time; leave more headroom or reduce bitrate if the connection varies.
- The stream fails to connect or YouTube does not receive it: Check that OBS is set to YouTube and that the stream key copied from the Live Control Room is current. Do not share the key publicly.
- Text or imagery looks poor despite a stable stream: Check that the output resolution is 1280×720 rather than relying only on the canvas setting. If you increase resolution or frame rate, select the corresponding YouTube recommendation only when the line can sustain it reliably.

Does YouTube’s 3 Mbps recommendation guarantee that my BSNL stream will work?
No. It is YouTube’s H.264 recommendation for 720p30 live ingestion, not a measurement of your particular BSNL connection. Confirm stability with a real stream test.
