You can use a Linux VPS as an always-on host for FFmpeg, which can pace a prerecorded cooking video for live output to YouTube. That does not guarantee an uninterrupted stream: the VPS, network route, FFmpeg process, and YouTube ingest can all stop or need attention. First decide whether you mean genuinely live cooking or a loop of your own recording, then configure YouTube Live, protect your stream key, and test the full setup before relying on it.
Choose what “24/7” means for your channel
A VPS can keep an encoder process running while your home computer is off. It cannot make prerecorded footage genuinely live, guarantee that YouTube will keep accepting the stream, or remove the need to check channel policies and stream health.
Genuinely live cooking
If you want viewers to hear cooking as it happens, the source must be a live camera and microphone feed reaching the VPS. This guide’s file-pacing approach is for a recording, not for capturing a live kitchen. A creator streaming genuinely live should not apply file-input pacing to an actual live or capture input; FFmpeg warns that a low read rate on such inputs can cause packet loss.
A loop of your own recording
For a prerecorded stream, record and edit your own close-up cooking footage and sound, then send that file to YouTube Live repeatedly. Original footage makes your contribution clearer, but calling the stream “live” or labeling it ASMR does not itself establish originality or monetization eligibility.

Check channel access and rights before setup
Confirm YouTube Live is available
In YouTube Studio, start the live-stream setup and choose the encoder or streaming-software workflow. Follow the current prompts to configure the broadcast and obtain its ingest details. Live access can depend on the channel’s state, so confirm that Studio lets you create a stream rather than assuming every channel is eligible. YouTube may also restrict live access for policy-related reasons.
Use material you have the right to stream
Use video and audio you made or are entitled to use, including music, background sound, and any material captured in the kitchen. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another live broadcast. A match can cause a placeholder to replace the stream; unresolved material can lead to interruption or termination. Even if a rights holder licensed the material to you, the holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID for the stream to proceed without that detection problem.

Keep the stream key private
Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it in a screenshot, paste it into a public script or repository, or share it with someone who does not need access. Use the RTMPS ingest option when configuring an RTMPS stream; YouTube’s Live Streaming API reference identifies RTMPS as its primary ingestion URL for RTMPS use. Copy the current ingest details from YouTube’s interface rather than relying on an old saved endpoint.
Prepare a Linux VPS for the job
The VPS runs the encoder and sends the stream outbound to YouTube. No Indian provider, plan price, minimum CPU or bandwidth, or data-center route is established here as the best choice for a particular stream. Size the service for your encoding approach, source file, and provider terms instead of treating a generic plan as a known-good choice.

Check provider and server constraints
- Confirm that the plan allows sustained outbound video traffic and check whether outbound data is capped or billed separately.
- If you will transcode, allow CPU headroom for the chosen resolution and frame rate. If you will stream-copy, check that the source codecs and container are compatible with the selected output workflow; streaming-copy avoids video encoding work but is not suitable for every file or ingest configuration.
- Allow enough disk for the recording, logs, and any additional files your workflow needs. Keep the stream key out of logs and publicly readable files.
- Check the provider’s data-center location, support, reboot controls, and recovery behavior. A server being in India does not by itself establish the quality of its route to YouTube ingest.
Choose between transcoding and stream copy
Transcoding can change the source’s video or audio encoding to a format and profile you have selected for delivery, but it uses CPU. Stream copy avoids re-encoding the media streams, but only works when the file’s codecs and format fit the output requirements. No benchmark on a particular VPS or universally correct bitrate, resolution, frame rate, keyframe interval, or codec profile for this channel is established here. Inspect your recording and use YouTube’s current encoder guidance and the installed FFmpeg version to select and validate those settings; do not copy numbers from an unrelated setup.
Configure FFmpeg to pace a prerecorded file
FFmpeg’s -re option is equivalent to -readrate 1: it reads file input at its native rate instead of sending the file as fast as the server can process it. FFmpeg documents this as useful when packet pacing matters, such as live streaming. Apply pacing to the prerecorded file input, not to an actual live capture input.

There is no single validated end-to-end command for every Linux distribution, FFmpeg build, cooking file, and YouTube stream configuration. Before starting a continuous broadcast, assemble the command for your own input and current YouTube ingest details, verify option ordering and audio/video mapping against the installed FFmpeg documentation, and run a short private or unlisted test. The output needs the correct ingest address and private stream key; keep those credentials out of material that others can read.
Make looping and recovery separate decisions
File pacing controls how quickly FFmpeg reads the recording; it does not by itself create a loop, restart a crashed process, reconnect after an ingest failure, alert you to silence, or prove that a stream is healthy. Decide explicitly how your workflow repeats the file, supervises the encoder process, detects loss of output, and alerts someone who can act. These are reliability choices, not guarantees supplied by the pacing option or by running a process on a VPS.

Test before leaving it unattended
- Create a test broadcast in YouTube Studio and confirm that the encoder workflow accepts the stream.
- Check both picture and cooking audio in YouTube’s preview or monitoring view. Listen for clipping, silence, dropped sections, or a mismatch between sound and video.
- Verify that the intended recording repeats as expected and that the broadcast remains visible after a test interruption or process restart.
- Review the provider’s outbound usage and your server’s CPU, memory, disk, and logs during the test. Use your observed workload to decide whether the VPS plan is adequate; no provider size or cost is established here.
- After launch, check stream health and YouTube Studio alerts. A continuously configured process is not proof that the channel is continuously reaching viewers.
Make a deliberate archive and monetization choice
YouTube monetization policy applies to livestreams. On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified that its former “repetitious content” policy is called “inauthentic content”; the policy includes repetitive or mass-produced material. Reused-content review is separate from copyright permission: having a license does not by itself show that a channel adds original value. YouTube’s channel-level review can consider videos, channel description, titles, and descriptions, so make your authorship and production contribution clear and do not assume that a looped stream will pass monetization review.
If watch hours matter to your plans, distinguish archived streams from unarchived ones. YouTube’s published qualified-watch-hours guidance says archived livestreams can count under its rule, while livestreams that are not archived do not count under that rule. This is only one part of YouTube Partner Program eligibility, not a promise that a stream or channel will qualify.
Troubleshoot common failures

Estimate the real cost in India
A VPS bill is only one part of the cost. Include any sustained outbound bandwidth charges, the CPU capacity required if you transcode, storage for source files and logs, and the time or monitoring needed to recover from interruptions. Provider prices, India-specific terms, sustained-egress allowances, and route quality are not established here, so compare current terms directly with providers and test the route from the plan you might use.
