Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor a mostly static or slowly moving 24/7 playlist, start with 30 fps in OBS. It reduces rendering and encoding work compared with 60 fps, and YouTube’s H.264 recommendation for 1080p is 10 Mbps at 30 fps versus 14 Mbps at 60 fps. Choose 60 fps when the playlist has fast movement that benefits from smoother playback and your computer and upload connection can sustain it.
For uploaded videos that should run continuously without a computer at home, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live.
When to use 30 fps or 60 fps
| Decision | 30 fps | 60 fps |
|---|---|---|
| Best fit | Static slides, ambient scenes, slow movement, or source video already at 30 fps. | Fast movement where smoother motion matters, especially when the source footage is available at 60 fps. |
| OBS workload | Lower rendering and encoding workload than 60 fps, according to OBS guidance. | More rendering and encoding work; use it only if testing shows the system can sustain it. |
| YouTube H.264 bitrate recommendation at 1080p | 10 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| Continuous-operation choice | A practical starting point when motion is limited or stability margin is uncertain. | Use when smoother motion has value and both encoding and upload remain stable. |
These bitrate figures are YouTube configuration recommendations, not a measured comparison of viewer preference or 24/7 reliability. For source footage recorded at 30 fps or largely still imagery, setting OBS to 60 fps does not create new motion detail.
Set OBS to match the playlist and YouTube
- Choose the frame rate: In OBS, open Settings > Video and set Common FPS Values to 30 or 60. Start at 30 unless the content’s movement gives you a reason to use 60.
- Choose a resolution and codec: Match the output to your intended stream and consult YouTube’s current encoder settings table for the exact recommended bitrate for that resolution, frame rate, and codec. YouTube lists different values for H.264, H.265, and AV1.
- Set the bitrate: As examples for H.264, YouTube recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. At 720p H.264, the recommendation is 6 Mbps for both frame rates. The 1080p difference should not be generalized to other resolutions or codecs.
- Set rate control and keyframes: YouTube recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. Its guidance supports live frame rates up to 60 fps.
- Use a secure ingest connection: YouTube recommends RTMPS as a secure option for RTMP streaming. In OBS, enter the server and stream key from YouTube’s live-control setup; keep the key private and do not share it in screenshots, recordings, or public posts.
- Test the actual playlist: Include representative movement and audio. YouTube says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Check YouTube’s stream health and OBS’s encoding and connection diagnostics before relying on the setup unattended.
Exact labels can vary with OBS version and YouTube’s live-control interface. The settings to verify are the output frame rate, bitrate, CBR, keyframe interval, ingest server, and stream key.

What to monitor during continuous streaming
Encoding performance
Watch OBS for encoding overload and rendering lag during representative playback. OBS explains that frame rate affects rendering and encoding performance; if 60 fps is not working reliably, its encoding-performance guidance recommends reducing the frame rate to 30 fps.
Connection stability
Keep an eye on OBS dropped frames and YouTube stream health. OBS says dropped frames occur when the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the selected bitrate; enough dropped frames can lead to disconnection. If dropped frames rise, check whether the connection can sustain the bitrate and reduce the bitrate or frame rate if needed. YouTube’s transcoding of a live stream into different output formats does not make an unstable incoming encoder connection stable.

Limits of a short test
A successful brief test confirms only that the setup worked during that test. It cannot establish that an unattended stream will remain uninterrupted indefinitely. For a 24/7 broadcast, test the real scene and audio, monitor the stream, and be ready to reduce settings when performance or connection diagnostics show trouble.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps a YouTube playlist running from the cloud: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Every slot streams uploaded video as provided, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with no re-encoding or quality tiers; it includes 10 GB of storage per slot, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera.

Troubleshooting common 24/7 stream problems
- OBS reports encoding overload or rendering lag: Reduce the output frame rate from 60 to 30 and test again. If the problem remains, use OBS’s encoding-performance troubleshooting steps.
- Dropped frames keep increasing: The upload connection may be unstable or unable to sustain the chosen bitrate. Check the connection and lower the bitrate if needed; a 60 fps stream may also require more bitrate at some resolutions.
- YouTube reports poor stream health: Recheck resolution, codec, bitrate, CBR, and the two-second keyframe interval against YouTube’s encoder settings guidance. Confirm that OBS uses the intended server and a current, private stream key.
- The video looks no smoother at 60 fps: Check the source footage. A 30 fps or mostly static source does not gain new motion detail simply because OBS is set to 60 fps.
- The stream disconnects: Check OBS’s connection diagnostics and YouTube’s stream health. OBS notes that severe dropped frames can lead to disconnection; address instability or bitrate capacity before returning to higher settings.
Copyright and reused-content checks
A technically stable stream does not establish that you have the right to broadcast every item in a playlist or that a channel will meet YouTube’s monetization requirements. Before streaming, confirm that you hold the necessary rights or have permission for the video, music, and other included material, and review YouTube’s current copyright and channel policies. A 24/7 loop does not itself make content original or resolve rights issues.
