In the 2024 guide’s description, Strands uses a six-by-eight letter grid. Find theme words by connecting adjacent letters horizontally, vertically, or diagonally; a route can change direction. The spangram names the shared connection and links at least two sides of the board. Theme words are highlighted blue and the spangram yellow.
The guide also reports that finding three valid non-theme words of four or more letters unlocks a hint that highlights a theme word. This describes the mechanic reported in that 2024 guide, not a guarantee about current product access or settings.
