For NYT Strands on August 24, 2026 (puzzle #904), the theme is “You can’t eat just one.” The spangram is COOKIEJAR; the five theme words are MACAROON, SNAP, SNICKERDOODLE, SNOWBALL and SPRITZ. The clues below progress from a small nudge to the complete reveal.

Start with a spoiler-light hint

The theme points to named varieties of cookies. If you want to keep more of the board unspoiled, use that clue to look for cookie names before reading the answer list.

Progressive clues for the theme words

  • MACAROON: A coconut confection.
  • SNAP: Think of a cookie name that can also suggest a crisp sound.
  • SNICKERDOODLE: A cinnamon-sugar cookie.
  • SNOWBALL: A cookie whose name evokes a winter treat.
  • SPRITZ: A buttery cookie shaped by pressing or piping dough.

How Strands hints work

Strands uses a 6-by-8 letter grid. Words can turn as their letters connect, and the spangram expresses the theme while touching opposite edges. Finding three valid non-theme words of at least four letters earns an in-game hint: it highlights letters belonging to an unsolved theme word, but you still have to trace the word’s path. These general rules are described by the independent fan site Play Strands NYT.

Why the date includes a year

“August 24” alone is ambiguous because Strands answers change each day and year. This page identifies the puzzle as the August 24, 2026 edition, numbered #904; an August 24 puzzle from another year would have different answers.
