How Strands works

Strands is an online word-search game from The New York Times. Its usual board has six rows and eight columns, and answers can bend through neighboring letters. Every puzzle includes a theme and a spangram: a word or phrase that names the theme and stretches between opposite edges of the board. Finding three valid non-theme words unlocks a hint that highlights letters in a theme answer. These are general game rules, not special mechanics unique to puzzle #285. See the Strands overview for additional background.
