Why the Saturday puzzle appeared Friday night
The Saturday, November 16 puzzle was released at 10 p.m. Eastern on Friday, November 15, according to Erik Kain’s guide. That timing explains why a guide dated Friday covered the Saturday puzzle.
A quick solving approach
Kain recommends filling as many across answers as you can first, since their letters can reveal down answers; working down clues can provide the same kind of help in reverse. His reported 3:58 solve was his own time after pausing while multitasking, not a typical benchmark.
Kain’s November 2024 guide characterized the Mini as a smaller, quicker version of the full NYT Crossword, playable on the web or in the app, and said the app was needed to tackle the archive. Those are dated descriptions; current access and archive terms are not established here.
