Two of the clues depend on a visual puzzle, PQRsTUV, where the position of one letter changes the answer. Spoilers follow, so stop here if you want to solve it yourself.
Across answers (spoilers)
- 1. “___, queen!” — YAS
- 2. Waiter’s handout — MENU
- 3. Tiny invertebrate that, when grouped in the thousands, makes up a coral — POLYP
- 4. Scoop of sour cream — DOLLOP
- 5. Spicy wing, as seen on a popular YouTube talk show — HOTONE (written as one word in the grid; “HOT ONE” is only a reading aid)
- 6. Comparative suggested by this visual puzzle: PQRsTUV — SLOWER
Down answers (spoilers)
- 1. Like SpongeBob and Spirit airplanes — YELLOW
- 2. “Bueller …? Bueller …?” — ANYONE (one word)
- 3. Meal suggested by this visual puzzle: PQRSTUV, with the S raised above the other letters — SUPPER
- 4. “___ bene” (Italian for “very good”) — MOLTO
- 5. Amenity in a Florida backyard, perhaps — POOL
- 6. Agency at the center of a 2026 government shutdown — DHS
How the visual clues work
The two wordplay entries share one picture. In the Across clue, the S in PQRsTUV is lowered, so the letters read as a comparison and give SLOWER. In the Down clue, the S is raised above the other letters, so the same string reads as a meal and gives SUPPER. Parade’s explanation of the puzzle covers this lowered-versus-raised distinction. The plain-text versions of these clues lose that typography, so the letter position is the key detail to check against the original graphic.
How the answer list was confirmed
Parade’s March 13, 2026 answer guide and Forbes’ “’NYT Mini’ Clues And Answers For Friday, March 13,” published March 12, 2026, list the same clues and answers. WordHint’s “NYT Mini Crossword March 13, 2026 — Answers” page also gives a date-specific listing. These are secondary reports; they were not checked against the New York Times puzzle archive directly, so treat the list as reported rather than officially confirmed.
Forbes notes that the Mini is playable on the New York Times website and in the NYT Games app, and that archived puzzles require an NYT Games subscription. A puzzle from March 13 is therefore an archive solve for most readers.

Using the list without spoiling the whole grid
- Start with the Down entries that have unambiguous clues, such as POOL and MOLTO, to anchor the grid.
- For the two visual entries, try the letter-position reading first. SLOWER and SUPPER are both 6 letters, so a crossing letter will confirm which one fits.
- Check any entry that contradicts a crossing letter before accepting this list, since a mismatch would point to a transcription error in a secondary source.
Mixed-spacing answers such as HOTONE and ANYONE are written as single words in the grid, so enter them that way.
