Emily Bader wanted Jane Grey to become more of a “badass” if My Lady Jane returned—but she framed that idea conditionally, not as news of a renewal. Prime Video canceled the series after its first season in August 2024, so there is no season 2 on the way according to the cited reports.
What Emily Bader said about a possible season 2
In a TV Insider interview published July 21, 2024, Bader, who plays Jane Grey, said: “If we went to another season, I think that Jane is on the run, and it’s time to fully commit to badass Jane Grey.”

The key phrase is “if we went to another season.” Bader was sharing a creative idea for a hypothetical continuation: Jane would be on the run and more fully embrace a forceful, self-directed version of herself. She was not announcing that Prime Video had ordered another season.
Will there be a My Lady Jane season 2?
No. TVLine reported on August 16, 2024, that Prime Video canceled My Lady Jane after its first and only season. That later report settles the question raised by Bader’s July interview: the possible story she described was not produced as a second season.

The cited cancellation report does not establish a specific audience figure or explain the decision with a named original statistic. Claims that a particular viewership number caused the cancellation are not supported by these sources.
What the unmade season might have explored
The first season ended with Jane and Guildford escaped and on the run, while Jane’s family and the kingdom’s political conflict remained in danger. That ending left room for further story, but an open ending is not evidence that a continuation was commissioned.

Co-showrunner Gemma Burgess also discussed a hypothetical next chapter in the July 2024 TV Insider interview. She described characters “growing up and moving on and figuring out how to survive in the world where Jane is free, but the kingdom is not.” In that imagined direction, Mary remained on the throne as Jane’s circumstances changed.
A January 6, 2026, TV Insider report published through Swooon revisited Bader’s comments about discussions of a possible second season, including a pirate direction. Those are retrospective details about an unmade season; they do not change the reported cancellation.

Where the series came from—and how to follow up
My Lady Jane is a historical fantasy romance adapted from the novel by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows. The book is the source material, not a continuation of the television adaptation. ELLE’s August 17, 2024, report identifies the novel and covers the show’s cancellation context.
Amazon said all eight first-season episodes were released exclusively on Prime Video on June 27, 2024, according to its release announcement. That is the original release information, not confirmation of current availability in every country; check Prime Video’s regional listings before expecting to watch it.
