The answer to “Work like a ___” is DOG. It completes the phrase “work like a dog.” This clue appeared in the New York Times Daily Mini on Tuesday, April 22, 2025—not the separate full-size crossword.

April 22 Daily Mini answers

The Mini is a 5×5 puzzle with 10 clues. Its archive credits constructor Tracy Bennett. The clue list and grid details are available in the Crossword Chef archive; the answer list is also reproduced by How2Shout.

Why DOG and CHARM both fit

The two Across clues use the same prompt, “Work like a ___,” but complete different expressions. DOG makes “work like a dog,” meaning to work very hard or tirelessly; CHARM makes “work like a charm,” meaning to work very well or effectively. The paired answers are the Mini’s clearest theme connection.

Daily Mini or full-size crossword?

The wording “NYT crossword” can refer to either puzzle published that day. The ten clues above belong to the 5×5 Daily Mini. The full-size April 22 crossword is a separate puzzle; the Try Hard Guides answer page lists 76 clues for it. For the specific “Work like a ___” entry, use the Mini answer: DOG. A separate clue lookup also gives DOG for this wording: NY Times Puzzles (Realqunb).
