What is NYT Connections?
Connections presents 16 words that must be divided into four groups of four. Every group is linked by a common association, phrase, or meaning. The groups are marked by four difficulty colors: yellow is generally the most accessible, followed by green and blue, while purple is commonly the most difficult.
The challenge is that some words can appear to belong to multiple categories. A good solving approach is to identify the most specific connection first, test it against all four words, and avoid submitting a group until each entry fits naturally. When a category seems too broad, it is often a sign that the intended connection is a phrase or a secondary meaning.
