Need help with the archived NYT Connections puzzle for Wednesday, September 10, 2025? Start with the spoiler-light hints below; the four categories and their answers follow after a spoiler warning.

Hints for Connections #822

Try these clues before looking at the answer key:

  • Yellow: A scold you might hear after a bad choice.
  • Green: Verbs for moving fast.
  • Blue: Roles tied to one well-known comedian.
  • Purple: Common pairings with “King.”

Spoiler warning: full answers below

The answer key is based on puzzle-specific coverage from TechRadar and Parade, which agree on the four groups.

Category Words
You should know better! BAD, SHAME, TSK, TUT TUT
Move quickly BARREL, FLY, RACE, ZIP
Eddie Murphy roles AKEEM, DOLITTLE, DONKEY, FOLEY
King ____ CAKE, COBRA, KONG, TUT

Why TUT and BARREL can mislead

TUT TUT is not TUT

TUT TUT is the disapproving expression in “You should know better!” TUT, by itself, completes “King Tut,” so the two entries belong in separate groups.

BARREL means to move quickly

BARREL fits the speed group as a verb, as in “barrel along,” rather than as a container.

How Connections works

Each puzzle presents 16 words to sort into four groups of four. The groups are color-coded from yellow, the easiest, through green and blue to purple, the trickiest. The NYT Help Center notes that words may plausibly fit more than one category, which is part of the challenge.
