NXT Homecoming at Full Sail University took place on September 16, 2025, so it is not an upcoming special. But its strongest returns show what a future Homecoming could do well: reconnect NXT’s past to its present with a defining entrance, a meaningful match, or a reunion that carries real history.
Why Full Sail makes the right alumni matter
Homecoming is most effective when it feels rooted in NXT, rather than like a parade of famous guests. Full Sail University described the campus as NXT’s birthplace and said NXT live broadcasts took place there from 2012 through 2020. That history gives alumni with a vivid connection to the brand a natural place in the conversation. Full Sail’s August 25, 2025 announcement also confirmed the 2025 return to campus.
The picks below are fan opinions, not predictions or reports of WWE plans. WWE’s event recap and previews establish what happened in 2025; they do not confirm a future Homecoming or future appearances.
The NXT legends best suited to a future Homecoming
Finn Bálor: make the entrance the moment
Finn Bálor offers the clearest example of how a return can land without needing a match. WWE’s recap says he returned at the 2025 Homecoming with his vintage entrance. For another special, that entrance could be the whole point: a brief appearance that instantly recalls an earlier NXT era. It is a strong choice when the show needs a burst of recognition, not another match on an already crowded card. WWE’s results recap confirms the 2025 appearance.

Tyler Breeze: put an alumnus into the title picture
Tyler Breeze is a natural pick for a return with competitive stakes. At the 2025 Homecoming, he challenged Ethan Page for the NXT North American Championship, and Page retained. That makes Breeze a useful precedent for bringing an alumnus into a current title story rather than limiting him to a cameo. A future appearance could use the same principle: give the returning name a clear opponent and a reason to matter to the current roster. WWE’s match preview covered the challenge; the results recap records the outcome.
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa: bring back the rivalry as a team
Gargano and Ciampa are the strongest tag-team nostalgia option when presented together as #DIY. WWE called both men NXT legends and noted that each had held the NXT Championship. At Homecoming, they faced Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes, which gave the match a generational hook: one celebrated NXT pairing against another. A future special could build around that kind of history, using the reunion itself to connect eras rather than treating either wrestler as an isolated guest. WWE’s preview describes the matchup, and the results recap confirms Trick Melo Gang’s win.
Rank #2
- Roll down to the ring with the Lucha Low Rider vehicle.
- Includes a WWE Main Event Rey Mysterio action figure with advanced articulation.
- Recreate iconic entrances with the Lucha Low Rider hydraulics action.
- Rey Mysterio can enter the match with the vehicle's launching action.
- Ride into matches with real rolling wheels.
Rhea Ripley, Lyra Valkyria, and Stephanie Vaquer: make it a multi-era women’s match
Rhea Ripley, Lyra Valkyria, and Stephanie Vaquer would make a compelling group return because each has held the NXT Women’s Championship. At the 2025 Homecoming, the trio defeated Fatal Influence. That established a straightforward format that can showcase multiple generations of NXT women together without reducing the appearance to a walk-on. A future card could use the group in a match that connects their distinct championship histories to the current division. WWE’s event recap confirms the trio’s appearance and result.
Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss: make a championship defense part of the visit
Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss brought current stakes to their Homecoming return: WWE previewed them defending the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against Izzi Dame and Tatum Paxley, and the recap records a successful defense. That combination is a good model for a future special when a recognizable return should also advance a story. The title match connected established names to NXT’s active roster instead of making nostalgia the only reason to watch. See WWE’s match preview and the results recap.
Rank #3
- Fan Favorites! WWE action figures bring Superstars to life in 6-inch scale.
- TrueFX Technology! Each figure is detailed with a life-like face for added collectability.
- Dynamic Posing! Fans can recreate signature moves with 14 points of articulation.
- Play and Display! Reenact favorite WWE Main Event matches or create new rivalries and moves.
- Super Collectible! WWE fans can find their favorite Superstar figures (each sold separately, subject to availability).
Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes: reunite a newer NXT legacy
Not every Homecoming return needs to reach back to NXT’s earliest Full Sail years. Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes represent a more recent chapter, and their reunion as Trick Melo Gang against #DIY made the 2025 card feel like a meeting between generations. WWE’s preview identified the four competitors as NXT legends and former NXT Champions; its results recap records Trick Melo Gang’s victory. Bringing them back as a pair is more compelling than a generic appearance because their shared identity gives the match an immediate story. The WWE preview and recap document the reunion and result.

The strongest Homecoming format is not simply to maximize the number of returning names. It is to give each return a job that fits the performer’s connection to NXT:
- For instant recognition: use a signature entrance, as with Finn Bálor.
- For a current title story: give an alumnus a meaningful challenge, as Tyler Breeze received, or stage a championship defense like Flair and Bliss’s.
- For generational storytelling: reunite teams with distinct NXT histories, as #DIY and Trick Melo Gang did.
- For a women’s division showcase: use championship alumni in a group match with a clear current-roster connection, as Ripley, Valkyria, and Vaquer had against Fatal Influence.
