Why SPACE is the tricky word

SPACE may look like it belongs with the Mac keyboard keys, but in this puzzle it completes the memory-lapse group: “blank,” “flake,” “forget,” and “space” can all describe a lapse or failure to remember. The keyboard set is COMMAND, CONTROL, OPTION, and SHIFT.

That overlap is part of the challenge. The New York Times Help Center explains that Connections gives players 16 words to sort into four groups of four, with one intended solution; words can appear to fit more than one category. The color order runs from yellow, the easiest group, through green and blue to purple, the trickiest. NYT Help Center: Connections
