Hints for Connections No. 1013
Connections asks you to divide 16 words into four groups of four. Each group has a shared link, but several words may appear to fit more than one category. Here are the clues from least specific to most revealing:
| Color | Hint |
|---|---|
| Yellow | Disturb or unsettle someone. |
| Green | Terms found on a classic property-trading board game. |
| Blue | Figures from Greek mythology. |
| Purple | Words that can follow “Egg.” |

Answers for Friday, March 20
🟨 Yellow: Disturb
ALARM, CONCERN, RATTLE, SHAKE
Each word can describe causing someone worry or unease. To alarm or rattle someone is to unsettle them; something can also shake a person’s confidence or raise concern.
🟩 Green: Words on a Monopoly board
BOARDWALK, CHANCE, LUXURY, PARKING
These are all terms associated with the Monopoly board. Boardwalk is a property, while Chance is a card space, Luxury refers to the Luxury Tax space, and Parking refers to the Free Parking space. The category is broader than “properties you can buy,” which is why CHANCE and PARKING belong here.
Rank #2
🟦 Blue: Figures in Greek mythology
FATE, FURY, MUSE, SIREN
These words refer, in singular form, to mythological figures or groups: the Fates, the Furies, the Muses, and the Sirens. The puzzle uses the singular entries FATE, FURY, MUSE, and SIREN rather than their usual collective plurals.
🟪 Purple: Egg ___
CARTON, NOODLE, ROLL, TIMER
Each word follows “egg” to make a familiar phrase: egg carton, egg noodle, egg roll, and egg timer.

Why this puzzle is tricky
The green group is the main source of misdirection. BOARDWALK looks like the obvious property, but CHANCE, LUXURY, and PARKING are also printed spaces or labels on a Monopoly board. Treating the category as “Monopoly board terms” rather than “Monopoly properties” makes the group work.
The blue group also requires a small adjustment in number. Greek mythology is usually discussed in terms of the Fates, Furies, Muses, and Sirens, but the grid supplies their singular forms. That makes SIREN and MUSE easy to overlook.
Finally, the yellow answer is CONCERN. Some republished lists incorrectly show CONCERT, but CONCERT is not one of the 16 words in this puzzle. The verified yellow set is ALARM, CONCERN, RATTLE, and SHAKE.
How to approach similar Connections puzzles
- Start with fixed phrases. “Egg carton,” “egg noodle,” “egg roll,” and “egg timer” are strong pairings, so they provide a useful first group.
- Look for proper names and board terminology. BOARDWALK and CHANCE point toward Monopoly, but check whether the category includes spaces and labels as well as properties.
- Watch for singular and plural shifts. FATE, FURY, MUSE, and SIREN become clearer when read as references to the Fates, Furies, Muses, and Sirens.
- Use the remaining words semantically. Once the phrase, Monopoly, and mythology groups are removed, ALARM, CONCERN, RATTLE, and SHAKE form the final “disturb” set.
