Need a nudge before you see the solution? The March 13, 2026, NYT Connections puzzle is game #1006. Its categories are a polite refusal, number types, kinds of walls, and words that sound like non-numeric amounts. Spoiler-aware hints come first; the complete grid and answers follow.

Try these prompts before opening the answer key:
- Yellow: Turn it down.
- Green: Numerical varieties.
- Blue: Types of a vertical structure.
- Purple: Sounds like a quantity.
For another nudge, one group means “I don’t want that.” The two wall-related connections are not floors or ceilings.

#1 Best Overall
Green: KINDS OF NUMBERS
EVEN, IRRATIONAL, PERFECT, and PRIME describe mathematical types. An even number is divisible by two; an irrational number cannot be expressed as a ratio of integers. A perfect number equals the sum of its positive divisors other than itself, while a prime number has exactly two positive divisors: 1 and itself.
Blue: KINDS OF WALLS
BERLIN points to the Berlin Wall, BRICK to a wall’s material, FOURTH to the theatrical fourth wall, and GREAT to the Great Wall of China.
Purple: HOMOPHONES OF NON-NUMERIC AMOUNTS
Say the words aloud: AWL sounds like “all,” NUN like “none,” PHEW like “few,” and SUM like “some.” The spoken matches are quantities, but not numbers in the mathematical category.
The likely trap: SUM
SUM is also a mathematical term, so it may look as though it belongs with EVEN, IRRATIONAL, PERFECT, and PRIME. In this puzzle, its sound—not its mathematical meaning—is the clue: SUM pairs with “some” in the purple group.
