Need help with the Saturday, February 3, 2024 NYT Connections puzzle? Start with the spoiler-light clues below, then open the full answer section when you’re ready. The puzzle asks you to sort 16 words into four groups of four.

Hints for the February 3 Connections puzzle

Try these clues in order, stopping when you have enough to solve the grid:

  1. Each group has a connection to a different everyday setting or idea.
  2. One group consists of businesses; another, farm enclosures or fixtures.
  3. A third group contains familiar names people give dogs.
  4. For the last group, restore a missing first letter to each word to reveal a color.

All 16 words

The grid contains PEN, INK, SPOT, AGENCY, STABLE, FIRM, COMPANY, COOP, OLD, STY, REX, LACK, RANGE, ROVER, ENTERPRISE, and FLUFFY.

Full answers for February 3, 2024

Spoilers below.

Category Words Why they fit
Commercial organization AGENCY, COMPANY, ENTERPRISE, FIRM Each can describe a business or organization.
Farm fixtures COOP, PEN, STABLE, STY These are enclosures associated with farm animals.
Classic dog names FLUFFY, REX, ROVER, SPOT Each is a conventional name for a pet dog.
Colors minus their first letters INK, LACK, OLD, RANGE Add the missing initial letters to make PINK, BLACK, GOLD, and ORANGE.

How the trickiest group works

The last four answers are fragments of color names with their first letters removed: INK becomes PINK, LACK becomes BLACK, OLD becomes GOLD, and RANGE becomes ORANGE. The grid’s other words offer tempting overlaps: PEN and STY point toward farm enclosures, while SPOT, REX, ROVER, and FLUFFY are dog names.

How Connections works

NYT Connections presents 16 words and asks players to find four groups of four. The New York Times says each puzzle has one solution, and that words may appear to fit multiple categories as misdirection. Its Help Center says the game’s words and categories are curated by editors using the Oxford Dictionary. Read the NYT Connections Help Center page.

The game releases daily at midnight in the player’s timezone. The NYT says the archive goes back to June 12, 2023 for eligible All Access and Games subscribers; access depends on subscription eligibility and the current terms on the NYT Help Center page.
