Connections answers for August 19, 2025
The board has 16 tiles arranged into four groups of four. The archive reports that players may make four mistakes.
| Color and category | Answer tiles | How they connect |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow — QUITE THE TALKER | BLABBERMOUTH, CHATTERBOX, PRATTLER, WINDBAG | Each describes someone who talks a lot. |
| Green — FORTIFIED WINES | MARSALA, PORT, SHERRY, VERMOUTH | The puzzle groups these as fortified wines. |
| Blue — ___ ROCK | CLASSIC, LITTLE, PLYMOUTH, THE | Add ROCK after each tile: classic rock, Little Rock, Plymouth Rock, and The Rock. |
| Purple — STARTING WITH WAYS TO MOVE QUICKLY | DARTMOUTH, DASHBOARD, FLYWHEEL, RUSHMORE | Each starts with a word associated with moving quickly: DART, DASH, FLY, or RUSH. |
How the trickier connections work
Blue: complete a phrase
The four tiles become familiar names or expressions when ROCK follows them: CLASSIC ROCK, LITTLE ROCK, PLYMOUTH ROCK, and THE ROCK. Look for a shared word that completes several phrases when a set resists a straightforward definition.
#1 Best Overall
Purple: inspect the beginnings
DARTMOUTH, DASHBOARD, FLYWHEEL, and RUSHMORE look unrelated as whole words. Their first elements—DART, DASH, FLY, and RUSH—are the connection, each suggesting quick movement.

Connections asks you to divide 16 words into four groups of four. For this board, the categories range from direct synonyms and a subject category to phrase completion and a hidden word-beginning pattern. Try the plain semantic matches first; then test whether remaining tiles fit common phrases or share meaningful prefixes. Plausible-looking clusters can still be decoys: TechRadar’s writer notes considering PLYMOUTH, DARTMOUTH, and RUSHMORE together as American colleges before spotting the wine category.
