Spoiler warning: The complete NYT Connections answers for Monday, December 1, 2025, puzzle #904 appear below. If you are still solving, start with the progressive hints and stop before the answer sections.
Puzzle #904 divides its 16 entries into groups about completing a turn, circular objects, Franz Kafka works, and words that sound like letter names. The toughest category depends on hearing the connection rather than reading the words literally.
Hints for Connections #904
Try these in order. Each hint becomes more specific, so the later ones may give away much of the puzzle.
- One group describes a complete rotation, circuit, or loop.
- One group consists of things commonly pictured as round.
- Four entries become titles of Franz Kafka works when preceded by The.
- The most difficult group begins with words pronounced like the names of letters.
One clue from each group
- Complete turn: LAP
- Circular thing: LP
- Kafka work: METAMORPHOSIS
- Letter homophone: TEA LEAVES
The four categories in Connections #904
| Color | Category | Entries |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | Complete turn | CIRCUIT, LAP, ORBIT, REVOLUTION |
| Green | Circular things | FULL MOON, LP, PIZZA PIE, PUPIL |
| Blue | Kafka works, with “The” | CASTLE, JUDGMENT, METAMORPHOSIS, TRIAL |
| Purple | Starting with letter homophones | EYE CONTACT, PEA SOUP, SEA CHANGE, TEA LEAVES |
Connections #904 answers
Yellow: COMPLETE TURN
- CIRCUIT
- LAP
- ORBIT
- REVOLUTION
Each of these can describe a complete movement around a course, track, object, or central point. A runner completes a lap, a spacecraft completes an orbit, an electrical path can form a circuit, and a revolution is one full turn.
#1 Best Overall
Green: CIRCULAR THINGS
- FULL MOON
- LP
- PIZZA PIE
- PUPIL
These entries are commonly represented as round or circular forms. A full moon appears as a disk, an LP record is circular, a pizza pie is traditionally round, and the pupil is the round opening at the center of the eye.
Blue: KAFKA WORKS, WITH “THE”
- CASTLE — The Castle
- JUDGMENT — The Judgment
- METAMORPHOSIS — The Metamorphosis
- TRIAL — The Trial
Adding The to the beginning of each word produces a title associated with Franz Kafka. The Metamorphosis and The Judgment are among Kafka’s well-known stories, while The Castle and The Trial are major Kafka novels.
If this category points you toward the author, a paperback edition of The Trial is a natural optional starting point for exploring one of the four works represented in the grid. The edition and its availability can vary by region and retailer.
Purple: STARTING WITH LETTER HOMOPHONES
- EYE CONTACT — “I” contact
- PEA SOUP — “P” soup
- SEA CHANGE — “C” change
- TEA LEAVES — “T” leaves
The first word of each phrase sounds like the name of a letter: eye sounds like “I,” pea sounds like “P,” sea sounds like “C,” and tea sounds like “T.” The phrases themselves are ordinary expressions or nouns; the connection appears only when their opening sounds are converted into letters.

Why Connections #904 was difficult
The puzzle uses several words that can reasonably suggest more than one group. REVOLUTION may look as though it belongs with METAMORPHOSIS or SEA CHANGE because all can suggest transformation. Here, however, revolution means a full turn.
Rank #3
ORBIT creates the other major false lead. An orbit is often drawn as a circle, so it may seem to belong with the full moon, LP, pizza, and pupil. Its intended role is based on movement: an orbit is a completed path or turn, not simply a circular object.
The Kafka group also benefits from grammatical flexibility. The four standalone words do not initially look like a literary set, but adding the same article—The—makes the pattern clear. Finally, the purple group is phonetic rather than semantic, which makes it especially easy to overlook after the more literal yellow, green, and blue categories have been found.

A quick Kafka reading note
The Kafka category is not asking for characters, settings, or themes. It is a title-construction category: each grid entry becomes the name of a Kafka work after adding one common word. That distinction matters because several of the entries—especially TRIAL and JUDGMENT—are also ordinary legal or judicial terms.
