City Beach was listed as a planned New Year’s Eve fireworks location for 31 December 2021. A Town of Cambridge council agenda records a proposed free family market and a short fireworks display at the City Beach foreshore, with fireworks scheduled for 10pm. The agenda documents the event application and plan; the WA Government’s event-day statement separately confirms City Beach was among the locations where fireworks were planned.
What was planned at City Beach
The Town of Cambridge’s 12 October 2021 council agenda says RD Events applied on 13 September on behalf of the City Beach Activation Association to hold a New Year’s Eve night market and fireworks display at City Beach foreshore. The association, established in 2019 by local residents and business owners, sought to build on an earlier foreshore fireworks event with a broader community gathering. According to the application as described in the agenda, the event would be free and include international food vendors, artisan gift and craft stalls, acoustic music and children’s activities. It proposed a short fireworks display, with the main event starting at 4pm and fireworks scheduled for 10pm. The named main event site was the central car park between Clancy’s and Odyssea. These are application details and planned timings, not a verified report of what took place.
Where and when was the display?
The proposed venue was the City Beach foreshore, with the central car park between Clancy’s and Odyssea identified as the main event site. The agenda scheduled the market event to begin at 4pm and the fireworks for 10pm on 31 December 2021. It does not independently confirm the actual launch time.

What is not established about the event?
The available council agenda and state announcement document a proposal and an official plan, but do not establish exact attendance, weather, whether every proposed market activity occurred, or the precise time fireworks were launched. A Town of Cambridge council record from 27 September 2022 later referred to a self-financed 2021 event option and approval conditions in discussion of a subsequent decision; that retrospective reference does not independently verify the 2021 event’s final delivery or turnout.
