Rotten Tomatoes listed Season 2 at 80% on the Tomatometer, based on 56 critic reviews, and 58% on the Popcornmeter, based on 250-plus audience ratings, when accessed October 8, 2026. The phrase “near perfect” does not describe that snapshot. A score can change as Rotten Tomatoes adds reviews or ratings, so these percentages should be read with their access date, not as permanent figures. Rotten Tomatoes’ Season 2 page also characterizes the show as an emotionally observant romantic comedy that remains charming despite some stumbles; that is the site’s critics consensus, not a statement from Foster.

Those subjects should not be presented as a reaction to the score.

What did Foster say about Season 2?
The relationship’s next stage
Season 2 moves Joanne and Noah beyond the decision to stay together that ended the first season. Its focus is on whether their relationship can work amid friends, everyday routines, holidays, birthdays, and different expectations for the future. Foster described that shift to Netflix Tudum: “It’s such an interesting part of every relationship when you now have to see if you can make it work with each other’s friends, day-to-day routines, and how you handle the milestones that come in those first few months together from holidays, birthdays, and what you each think the future should look like.”
Criticism about Jewish representation
Season 1 drew criticism over its portrayal of Jewish women. In reporting by the Associated Press, Foster acknowledged why some viewers were sensitive to that portrayal: “If you are a Jewish woman who has felt like you didn’t like how you’re portrayed in the world or how people view you and this sort of reaffirmed that, I can understand the sensitivity. Definitely it was never the intention.” Foster said the show had planned further character development; AP reported that Season 2 gives more space to Bina and Esther. The discussion is about representation, not the Rotten Tomatoes rating.

Who ran the show?
Foster created Nobody Wants This and remained an executive producer. For Season 2, Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan joined as showrunners and executive producers. In a TheWrap interview, Foster said their experience and taste helped the process and gave her more room to concentrate on creative work. She also drew on real relationship moments, including differences in how partners express romance.

Netflix’s viewing figures are time-bounded reports, not a statement of current viewership:
Rank #4
- Season 1: Netflix reported 57 million views in three months. The Associated Press relayed that figure in 2025 and attributed it to Netflix.
- Season 2: Netflix reported 22.4 million views through its first 18 days and said it ranked number one on its Global English TV Top 10 for its first two weeks. These figures describe that initial period, not its current standing.
The show’s earlier popularity and its current Rotten Tomatoes scores measure different things. Netflix viewing totals count views over a specified period; Rotten Tomatoes aggregates critic reviews and audience ratings on its own platform.
