Nina Dobrev posted hospital photos on May 20, 2024, after an electric dirt-bike accident. The images showed her wearing braces and connected to medical equipment; in her first public update, she said she was okay but expected a long recovery. She later described her injuries and June surgery, then said in August 2024 that healing was going well but would take time.

Dobrev’s May 20, 2024, Instagram comparison post paired a photo of her on an electric bike with a hospital image. In the latter, she was wearing a hospital gown, with an IV and braces around her neck and one leg. She captioned the post, “How it started vs how it’s going.” The Los Angeles Times’ August account and contemporaneous People coverage reported that her Instagram story said, “I’m ok but it’s going to be a long road of recovery ahead.”
The photos documented her hospital visit and visible braces, but they did not identify her diagnoses. Early coverage did not establish where or exactly when the crash happened.
How the accident happened
Dobrev later said she was riding an electric dirt bike for the first time when she lost control and crashed. The initial reports described the vehicle more generally as an electric-powered motorcycle or e-bike; they did not provide a confirmed crash location or exact date.

Injuries and surgery she later described
In a recovery video discussed by the Los Angeles Times, Dobrev said the crash left her with a torn ACL, a torn meniscus and a fracture in her tibial plateau, the upper part of the shinbone that forms part of the knee joint. She said she had to wait three weeks for swelling to subside and the bone to begin healing before surgery, which took place in June 2024.
She described the diagnoses in her own account: “After losing control and crashing the bike — and a not-so-quick hospital visit — I found out that my ACL had completely torn off, my meniscus was torn through, and I had a fracture in my tibial plateau.” The diagnosis details came later; they cannot be inferred from the May hospital photos alone.

Her August 2024 recovery update
In August 2024, Dobrev told People that she thought she was doing well and was “a little ahead of schedule in terms of healing, but it is still a very long process.” The Los Angeles Times reported that she was walking with a brace at the time. These statements describe her recovery in August 2024, not her health status today.
The Los Angeles Times also reported a projected recovery period of nine to twelve months, but its account did not identify who made that projection. It should not be treated as an independently verified medical estimate or as an update on Dobrev’s current condition.

What is known about the bike
The Los Angeles Times reported that Autoevolution identified the bike pictured in Dobrev’s post as an E Ride Pro Pro-SS. That identification concerns the pictured bike only; the available reporting does not confirm that it was the vehicle involved in the crash.
