News reports said the filing came hours after Lythgoe’s response to Paula Abdul’s lawsuit became public. The allegations and the parties’ statements are not findings of fact. Abdul and Lythgoe later agreed to settle her separate lawsuit in December 2024; the reported terms were undisclosed.
Who was the new accuser?
The March 5, 2024 complaint was filed by an anonymous plaintiff identified as Jane Doe. Reporting described her as a longtime professional colleague of Lythgoe. The complaint alleged sexual assault and battery, sexual harassment, and negligence arising from a 2018 business meeting at Lythgoe’s Los Angeles home. The plaintiff sought unspecified damages and other relief, according to the report. Read the report on the complaint.
Those claims are allegations made in a civil complaint, not a court finding. The available reporting does not identify the plaintiff, and her identity should not be inferred.
What did Lythgoe say about Paula Abdul?
Abdul sued Lythgoe in December 2023, accusing him of sexual assault. In his response, Lythgoe denied her allegations and made personal characterizations of Abdul, including describing her behavior as “drug-fueled erratic behavior.” Abdul’s attorneys called the filing “classic victim shaming.” These were the parties’ competing positions, not judicial findings. Coverage of Lythgoe’s response and the criticism of it.

Why did the Jane Doe filing follow the response?
Reports said the March 5 complaint was filed hours after Lythgoe’s response to Abdul’s lawsuit became public. That timing explains the headline; it does not establish that the two cases were connected. The Jane Doe complaint involved a different plaintiff and an alleged 2018 encounter, while Abdul’s lawsuit concerned her own allegations.
The March filing also followed a separate January 2, 2024 complaint by two former contestants, identified as Jane Doe K.G. and Jane Doe K.N., concerning allegations associated with All American Girl. The Los Angeles Times reported on that complaint. In January 2024, Lythgoe also said he would step aside from the 2024 season of So You Think You Can Dance, saying he wanted to focus on clearing his name. His statement about stepping aside.
What happened to Abdul’s lawsuit?
Abdul and Lythgoe agreed to settle her lawsuit in December 2024, according to a report published December 13. The settlement terms were not disclosed. Abdul said, “I am grateful that this chapter has successfully come to a close and is now something I can now put behind me.” Lythgoe said, “We live in a troubling time where a person is now automatically assumed to be guilty until proven innocent, a process that can take years.” Read the settlement report.
That settlement concerned Abdul’s lawsuit. It does not, by itself, establish a resolution of the separate Jane Doe complaint filed in March 2024.

The cited reporting establishes the filing and the allegations, but does not establish the case’s later procedural status or outcome. Without a current court record or a later authoritative report, it would be inaccurate to say whether that complaint remains active, was dismissed, or was otherwise resolved.
