Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban met at a Los Angeles gala in 2005, married in Sydney in June 2006, and had two daughters together. Here is the documented timeline, with personal recollections distinguished from public and court-record milestones.
2005: They meet at a Los Angeles gala
Kidman and Urban met at the G’Day USA Gala in Los Angeles, an event honoring Australians. ELLE dates their meeting to January 2005; Good Morning America and Variety also place it at the gala that year.
Kidman’s recollection of their early courtship
Kidman later recalled that Urban came to her apartment at 5 a.m. on her birthday with gardenias, and that she hoped to marry him. That account is her personal recollection, rather than an independently documented record of the private visit. (ELLE)
2006: Engagement, wedding and early challenges
Kidman announced her engagement to Urban in May 2006. They married in Sydney, Australia, in June. The Associated Press described their marriage as lasting 19 years.

Urban enters rehabilitation
Variety reported that Kidman staged an intervention after Urban struggled with alcohol and that he entered rehabilitation early in their marriage. Urban later credited Kidman’s support. At her 2024 AFI Life Achievement Award tribute, he said, “If you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl,” as he discussed that support, according to Good Morning America. This is a reported chapter of their marriage, not evidence of why they later separated.
2008 and 2010: They welcome two daughters
Kidman and Urban’s daughters are Sunday Rose, born in July 2008, and Faith Margaret, born in December 2010, according to ELLE’s timeline. Kidman also has two older children from her marriage to Tom Cruise, as the Associated Press and Good Morning America note.

Public appearances during their marriage
Over the years, Kidman and Urban appeared together at entertainment and music events. Urban’s 2024 remarks at Kidman’s AFI tribute are one public example of him praising her support. Such appearances and statements document what the couple chose to share publicly; they do not establish what their private relationship was like.
September 2025: Separation reports and divorce filing
Reports that the couple had separated became public on September 29, 2025. Kidman filed for divorce in Nashville the following day, September 30. The filing cited “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences,” according to the Associated Press and ABC Australia. Those are the stated legal grounds, not a verified account of all the private reasons the relationship ended.
