The Los Angeles Times reported that he died of cancer at his home in Wilmington, North Carolina, citing his agent, Susan Tolar Walters.
What was Nicholas Pryor known for on Beverly Hills, 90210?
Pryor played Chancellor Arnold, the father of Brandon Walsh’s girlfriend Andrea Zuckerman, on the teen drama. His role connected him to one of his best-known television appearances, but it was only a small part of a career that stretched across serials, primetime television, movies and stage work. TVLine identified his character as Chancellor Arnold.
How did his death and cause of death become public?
The Television Academy records Pryor’s date of passing as October 7, 2024, and lists his birth date as January 28, 1935, in Baltimore, Maryland. Those dates put him at 89 when he died. The Television Academy maintains the biographical dates.
TVLine’s October 8 report said a cause of death had not yet been shared. On October 9, the Los Angeles Times reported cancer, citing confirmation from Walters. The reports reflect what was known on each publication date, rather than conflicting accounts.

What did Pryor do across television and film?
Daytime serials
Pryor spent substantial time in daytime drama. The Television Academy says he appeared in over 320 episodes of The Nurses as Ken Alexander and over 340 episodes of Port Charles as Victor Collins. These are the Academy’s “over” figures; the Los Angeles Times separately described his Port Charles run as nearly 350 episodes, so the totals should be understood as publisher-specific descriptions rather than a single reconciled count.
Primetime roles and films
His television credits included Murder, She Wrote and M*A*S*H, as well as Beverly Hills, 90210. On film, he appeared in Risky Business, Airplane! and Halloween Kills. The Los Angeles Times counted more than 170 television and film credits across a career of nearly 70 years; that is the newspaper’s career tally, not a count that combines the Academy’s separate serial episode figures.
