How to check for a 2026 announcement
Before traveling, look for a current announcement from the event organizer or official city and tourism sources. Confirm the date, show time, precise viewing area, whether admission is free or restricted, transit details, and weather or cancellation notices. A listing for another event or a previous year is not confirmation of a public fireworks show on December 31, 2026.

Can you set off your own fireworks?
City rules sharply limit personal fireworks, and public parks are not a place to use them. Minneapolis says personal fireworks must be nonexplosive; its examples include sparklers, cones, and snakes. The city prohibits their use on public property, including roads, alleys, schools, and parks. Saint Paul’s park regulations also prohibit fireworks on park property. Check the current rules for the location where you will be before using any fireworks.
Displays arranged for an event are different from personal use and require official permits. Saint Paul says event organizers need a Fireworks Display Permit; Minneapolis requires a special event permit for fireworks displays. Saint Paul’s event-planning guidance and Minneapolis special-event information explain the city processes.
Fireworks safety and reporting
Minneapolis advises using only fireworks legal in Minnesota, pointing them away from people and animals, and using them in an open area away from trees and houses. Soak spent fireworks in water, and never relight a firework that fails to go off. For an outdoor winter event, insulated gloves are a practical comfort item; no particular brand or model is endorsed here.
In Minneapolis, call 911 for an injury, active fire, fireworks putting people or property at risk, or another immediate threat. Use 311 for nonemergency noise complaints and reports of illegal fireworks that do not present an immediate threat. The city reported on December 23, 2025, that its 911 center had experienced a nearly 20 percent increase in calls between December 31 and January 1 compared with a non-holiday period. Read the city’s fireworks safety notice for its guidance.
