The biggest English-language Netflix movie arriving in December 2025 is Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, but it is only one of 11 original feature films scheduled for the month. The lineup ranges from holiday romances and prestige dramas to sports, journalism, history, and true-crime documentaries.
This is a release guide, not a list of every English-language movie already in the Netflix catalog. It includes scripted films and feature documentaries that premiered on Netflix or were newly added during December 2025. Dates are the U.S.-oriented Netflix streaming dates in the supplied schedule; availability, audio options, and exact release timing can vary by country and profile.

December 3: My Secret Santa

Alexandra Breckenridge plays Taylor, a single mother who disguises herself as Santa so she can take seasonal work at a luxury ski resort. The setup gives the film a gender-swapped, disguise-driven holiday-comedy hook, with the resort providing a snowy backdrop for the romance.
Breckenridge’s connection to Virgin River makes this a natural choice for viewers who prefer warm, relationship-focused Christmas programming. Mike Rohl, who directed the film, also directed The Princess Switch. Netflix announced the December 3 premiere through its Tudum title announcement.
December 5: Three very different new movies
Jay Kelly
Type: Prestige-oriented character drama
Starring: George Clooney, Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, Riley Keough, Jim Broadbent, Patrick Wilson, and Eve Hewson
Runtime: 133 minutes, according to TechRadar’s listing.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesNoah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly follows a famous actor, played by George Clooney, as he confronts his past and present during a journey through Europe. Adam Sandler plays the actor’s longtime manager. The film’s central subject is less a conventional external adventure than an examination of celebrity, identity, memory, and the relationships that remain after a public life has shaped someone’s private one.
With Baumbach behind the camera and Clooney and Sandler at the center of a large ensemble, this is December’s most obvious pick for viewers seeking a talkier, actor-led drama rather than a seasonal crowd-pleaser. Netflix includes the film in its December 5 viewing guide.
Love and Wine
Type: South African romantic comedy
Original language: English, according to Netflix’s title page.
Love and Wine centers on a privileged heir to a prestigious wine farm who swaps lives with his down-to-earth childhood friend. He takes on the challenge to demonstrate that his romantic success comes from his personality rather than his money, but the arrangement naturally complicates the question it is meant to settle.
The wine-estate setting and South African production context distinguish it from the more familiar U.S. holiday-romance formula. It is the December 5 choice for viewers who want an accessible opposites-attract story with a South African setting. Netflix identifies the movie as a South African romantic comedy and lists it among the day’s new arrivals at the official title page.

The New Yorker at 100
Type: Feature documentary
Subject: The New Yorker’s newsroom, journalism, fiction, cartoons, and institutional history.
Marshall Curry’s The New Yorker at 100 goes inside the magazine as it reaches its centennial. Rather than focusing on a single writer or story, the documentary examines the publication as a cultural institution: how its newsroom operates, how its journalism and fiction have developed, and how cartoons and editorial choices have contributed to its identity.
For DocumentaryTube readers, this is the clearest December 5 recommendation for an interest in publishing, media history, and the influence of editorial institutions on American culture. Netflix describes it as an inside look at the publication in its December 5 guide.
December 12: Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
Type: Detective mystery
Starring: Daniel Craig, Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, and Jeremy Renner
Runtime: 146 minutes, according to TechRadar’s listing.
Rian Johnson’s third Benoit Blanc mystery is the month’s major franchise release. Daniel Craig returns as the detective, this time investigating a murder involving a religious firebrand and an unusual group of suspects.
The ensemble is a major part of the appeal: Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, and Jeremy Renner join Craig in a cast designed to give the whodunit plenty of competing personalities and possible motives. The film began a limited theatrical release on November 26 before its Netflix streaming debut on December 12. Netflix provides the release, cast, and plot details in its Tudum announcement.
If you are choosing only one December Netflix original for a group viewing, this is the safest high-interest option: it has an established detective, a recognizable series identity, and a mystery that can be discussed after the credits.

December 24: Goodbye June
Type: Family drama
Starring: Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough, Johnny Flynn, Timothy Spall, and Stephen Merchant
Runtime: 1 hour 56 minutes, according to Netflix.
Goodbye June follows four adult siblings who reunite as their mother’s health declines. The family drama marks Kate Winslet’s directorial debut, and she also stars alongside Helen Mirren, Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough, Johnny Flynn, Timothy Spall, and Stephen Merchant.
Arriving on Christmas Eve, it offers a serious counterpoint to December’s lighter holiday romances. Its subject matter—siblings, a difficult family reunion, and impending loss—makes it better suited to viewers looking for an emotionally direct drama than for anyone seeking uncomplicated festive escapism.

- BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE: Works with earlier versions to allow for use with a wide range of HDMI-enabled devices
Skye Borgman’s documentary examines Jodi Hildebrandt, the Utah therapist whose child-abuse case involving parenting YouTuber Ruby Franke exposed a wider network of manipulation and online influence.
The film sits at the intersection of true crime and creator-economy reporting. It is aimed at viewers following family channels, influencer culture, abuse investigations, and the ways online audiences can amplify authority and trust. As a late-December release, it also extends Netflix’s documentary programming beyond holiday entertainment and into a highly discussed internet-era case. Netflix describes the film in its December 26 viewing guide, while the December schedule places its debut on December 30.
Documentaries to prioritize in December
December’s nonfiction slate is unusually varied rather than being concentrated in one subject area:
- For magazine and media history: The New Yorker at 100.
- For film history and 1970s culture: Breakdown: 1975.
- For sports fans: Elway.
- For investigative reporting: Cover-Up.
- For international true crime: Murder in Monaco.
- For internet influence and creator culture: Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story.
The documentary run is especially useful for viewers who do not want their December choices limited to fiction or Christmas movies.
What is not included
This list intentionally excludes December Netflix Originals whose original languages are not English, even if English dubbing or subtitles are available. The excluded titles include The Great Flood (Korean), 10Dance (Japanese), A Time for Bravery (Mexican Spanish), The Night My Dad Saved Christmas 2 (Spanish), The Fakenapping (Arabic/Saudi), and Lost in the Spotlight (Indonesian).
It also excludes programming that is not an original feature film: stand-up specials, live sporting events, series, and series-format programs. For example, Ricky Gervais: Mortality is a stand-up special, while Stranger Things and Simon Cowell: The Next Act are series or series-format programming. English dubbing does not change a title’s original language, and a Netflix Original label does not by itself make a series or special a feature film.
How to use the dates
- Check your country’s Netflix listing. The schedule is U.S.-oriented, and licensing, release dates, and availability can differ by territory.
- Check the audio menu. Look for English original audio rather than assuming that an English-language dub identifies the film’s original language.
- Distinguish streaming from theatrical release. Wake Up Dead Man and Goodbye June had separate limited theatrical windows before their Netflix premieres.
- Use the genre categories to choose quickly. Start with My Secret Santa or Love and Wine for a lighter romance, Jay Kelly or Goodbye June for drama, and the six documentaries for nonfiction viewing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are all of these films available worldwide on the listed date?
No. The dates are a U.S.-oriented December 2025 schedule. Netflix availability, release timing, subtitles, and audio options can vary by country and profile settings.

Which December 2025 Netflix movie is the third Knives Out film?
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. It stars Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc and premiered on Netflix on December 12 after a limited theatrical release beginning November 26.

The New Yorker at 100, Murder in Monaco, Breakdown: 1975, Elway, Cover-Up, and Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story are feature documentaries.
The Bottom Line
For the month’s biggest scripted release, start with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Holiday-romance viewers have My Secret Santa and Love and Wine, while documentary fans get a broad nonfiction slate covering magazines, film history, sports, journalism, international crime, and influencer culture. Check Netflix in your territory before scheduling a viewing, because the listed dates and language options are not universal.
