Disneyland’s digital touches add interactive effects to the in-person visit: MagicBand+ responds at themed park locations and during selected entertainment, while the Disneyland app and PhotoPass add camera effects to guest photos. These are separate features with different requirements, and Disney says offerings can change. Check the official 70th-anniversary guide and current park updates before visiting.
What the digital additions do
The additions work in two different ways. MagicBand+ is a wearable that triggers location-based interactions and synchronized effects during selected entertainment. PhotoPass uses digital effects—such as Magic Shots and app-based Lenses—to add visual treatments to photos. They are not interchangeable: a band interaction does not necessarily create a downloadable photo, and using PhotoPass Lenses does not require MagicBand+.
Where MagicBand+ adds interactive effects
Disney’s 70th-anniversary guide describes MagicBand+ surprises across five themed locations: Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, and Frontierland. At these stops, Disney says the band unlocks interactions and effects inspired by opening-day attractions. The guide also describes synchronized vibrations and glittering lights during selected entertainment.
These experiences depend on the locations and entertainment Disney designates; the guide does not establish that every attraction or show has a band interaction. MagicBand+ is optional for the app-based PhotoPass features described below.

How PhotoPass adds digital layers to photos
For Disneyland Resort’s 70th celebration, Disney describes new PhotoPass Magic Shots, Lenses, and other photo enhancements at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Magic Shots are photo opportunities with added effects, while Lenses use a compatible mobile device’s camera to apply digital effects. Some Lenses are limited to designated locations, so an effect may not be available everywhere in the parks.
What you need to use Lenses
- An eligible mobile device and the Disneyland app.
- Camera and location access enabled for the app.
- For certain Lenses, compliance with age and consent requirements. Disney says many Lenses use technology to detect key points on a guest’s face and/or hands; certain Lenses are limited to guests 18 or older who consent.
Compatibility varies by handset. App use may incur message, data, or roaming charges, depending on the device plan. These conditions and the location limits are described in Disney’s anniversary guide.

How to access and download PhotoPass images
Having a photo taken and being able to download its digital file are different things. Disney’s anniversary guide lists PhotoPass+ One Day and eligible Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Premier Pass purchases as routes that include digital downloads, subject to the applicable terms. Disney’s later PhotoPass explainer also lists individual digital downloads and says photos must be linked to a Disney account. Check the current purchase terms for what is included and how long images remain available.
Disney’s anniversary guide states that non-location-restricted Lenses included with eligible Lightning Lane purchases remain available in the app until 5:59 a.m. on the 45th day after use. The guide excludes selected states and localities from that offer. This is a published offer term, not a general retention guarantee for all photos or Lenses; confirm current terms for the relevant location and purchase.
