What is the movie about?
According to TheWrap’s July 24, 2024 report, the feature draws on William Brennan’s New York Magazine story, which also inspired the documentary series. The report reproduced this official synopsis: a newly single woman sublets a room in her dream home to a seemingly perfect man, then learns that he used a false name and application and is a serial squatter who will not leave without a fight.

The announced film is not described as a dramatization of the entire docuseries. The connection is the underlying Brennan story; the reported feature premise centers on the serial-squatter account.
Who is making the adaptation?
TheWrap reported that Paul Feig would direct and produce the Blumhouse feature, and that Stephen Susco would write the screenplay. The report also named Laura Fischer, Jason Blum, Chris Morgan, and Scoop Wasserstein among the producers.
Rank #2
Jason Blum, Blumhouse’s founder and CEO, said the story resonates because online connections can make it easier to misrepresent one’s identity, and praised Feig’s ability to balance dark and light. TheWrap described the project as the first time Blumhouse had produced a movie and television show based on the same source material.
How does the film relate to the documentary?
The documentary presents real roommate situations; the announced feature takes the shared source story into a scripted movie. That distinction matters: the feature’s synopsis describes a fictionalized dramatic treatment, not a new documentary season or a direct continuation of the series.
Rank #3
For context, BGR’s August 6, 2024 coverage describes season 2 as four episodes, including accounts involving a landlord, false imprisonment, and a woman who opens her home to her late husband’s friend. Those episode details are BGR’s description; the Netflix listing is the primary source for the series’ release information.

The confirmed news here is the July 2024 announcement. The sources cited do not establish that filming has begun, give a release date, or report a cancellation.
