Netflix released Thronglets for mobile on April 10, 2025, alongside Black Mirror Season 7. Developed by Night School, the game turns the episode “Plaything” into a creature-care and strategy simulation: players raise a population of small digital beings, then manage how it grows. Netflix described launch access as exclusive to members, with no ads or in-app purchases.
What is the Thronglets game?
Thronglets is a mobile simulation game based on the world of “Plaything,” an episode of Black Mirror Season 7. Netflix announced the game on April 10, 2025, identifying Night School as its developer. Netflix’s launch announcement called it a mobile game, while the Tudum guide describes its care and progression systems.
Its premise mixes an initially cute creature-raising loop with strategic population management. Players hatch Thronglets, care for them, and help them evolve as their numbers grow. The contrast between playful presentation and more unsettling implications fits the episode’s tone; it does not mean the real game’s creatures are sentient or that the software has the properties imagined in the show.
What do you do in the game?
Netflix’s guide describes a cycle of looking after creatures and developing a larger Thronglet community. The core activities include:

- Hatching Thronglets.
- Feeding and bathing them.
- Entertaining them.
- Evolving creatures and progressing through the game.
- Using strategy to manage a population as it grows.
That makes the game more than a simple virtual-pet app: care is paired with progression and decisions about a widening group. Netflix’s Media Center lists the title as “a curiously cute simulation” from “Plaything”; that is the company’s promotional description, not an independent review. How does it relate to the “Plaything” episode?
The connection is the episode’s fictional game and its Thronglets. In “Plaything,” Colin Ritman creates the Thronglets as sentient digital lifeforms while presenting them as a game. That is a story premise within Black Mirror, not a claim about the real mobile title. Netflix’s episode guide provides context for the Season 7 story.

Netflix says you do not need to watch “Plaything” or play Black Mirror: Bandersnatch before starting Thronglets. The game can be approached on its own; knowing the episode may make its references and unsettling tone easier to recognize. The original announcement teased the distinction with a line from Charlie Brooker: “I’m not gonna show you a game. That’s not what this is.”

This is subscription access, not an established standalone purchase option; the cited launch materials do not establish current regional availability, current subscription terms, or support for every device as of October 8, 2026.
