In Netflix’s 2025 Indian romantic comedy The Royals, Bhumi Pednekar plays Sophia Kanmani Shekhar, a self-made executive, and Ishaan Khatter plays Aviraaj Singh, a prince. Their business partnership puts romance in motion: Sophia’s company wants to turn Aviraaj’s financially struggling family palace into a luxury bed-and-breakfast. The series is set in Morpur, a fictional Indian city.
Who plays the leads in Netflix’s The Royals?
| Actor | Character | What Netflix’s official material says |
|---|---|---|
| Bhumi Pednekar | Sophia Kanmani Shekhar | A self-made, ambitious CEO of Work Potato, whose company develops luxury bed-and-breakfasts. |
| Ishaan Khatter | Aviraaj Singh | A prince and royal heir whom Netflix describes as reluctant, polo-playing, and a party prince. |
Sophia and Aviraaj come from sharply different worlds. Their effort to make the palace venture work brings their competing ambitions and egos into contact with an emerging attraction. Netflix’s April 22, 2025 announcement quoted Pednekar describing Sophia as both aspirational and relatable, and Khatter calling the show a modern-day rom-com.
Who else is in the cast?
Netflix’s Tudum guide and April 2025 newsroom announcement list a broad ensemble. The official material reviewed does not identify a character name for every performer, so the entries below distinguish confirmed role information from cast listings without a confirmed role assignment.
| Performer | Character information confirmed in the official sources reviewed |
|---|---|
| Sakshi Tanwar | Role name not specified |
| Zeenat Aman | Role name not specified |
| Nora Fatehi | Role name not specified |
| Milind Soman | Role name not specified |
| Dino Morea | Role name not specified |
| Chunky Panday | Role name not specified |
| Vihaan Samat | Role name not specified |
| Kavya Trehan | Role name not specified |
| Sumukhi Suresh | Role name not specified |
| Udit Arora | A Tudum image caption identifies him as Kunal Mehta; the reviewed cast guide does not otherwise map every role to a performer. |
| Lisa Mishra | Role name not specified |
| Luke Kenny | Role name not specified |
The official Netflix title page currently displays a shorter cast list than the Tudum guide and newsroom announcement. Netflix’s episode summaries also mention names including Padmaja, Ayesha, Jinnie, Diggy, and Maurice, but do not provide enough information in the reviewed pages to map all of them to actors.
